Appearance

Hope is a slender half-elf with golden-tan skin and silver-blonde hair that she keeps tied back in a practical braid. Her eyes are the bright green of a fresh meadow, but they possess a thousand-yard stare born of the Mists. She wears masterfully crafted studded leather armor over a deep blue traveling coat. Fastened to her collar is a silver pin shaped like a raven, a token of her bond with the Martikov family.

Mannerisms

She tends to speak in questions and often taps a rhythmic pattern on the hilt of her rapier when she is deep in thought.

Personality

Hope is weary but fundamentally kind. She has traded her parents' blind faith for a hard-earned conviction in the power of mortal willpower. She is quick-witted and possesses a dry, dark sense of humor that served her well in the Domains of Dread. While she claims to be a cynic, she is the first to risk her life for a total stranger, driven by a refusal to let the darkness have the final word.

Ideals

Resistance. No matter how deep the darkness, there is always a light worth finding, even if we have to strike the match ourselves.

Bonds

Adrian Martikov is the anchor that keeps me from drifting into the mists of cynicism. I will burn the world down before I let another shadow touch him.

Flaws

I have seen too much. I struggle to trust anyone who claims to be purely good, and I often assume the worst of people in positions of religious power.

Quirks

Checks her reflection in every surface to ensure her shadow is still her own.
Hums somber Lathanderite hymns while cleaning her equipment.

Background

Born in Waterdeep, Hope was the daughter of Lathanderite priests who valued dogma over individual expression. She spent her youth in the Great Library, devouring stories of ancient heroes while ignoring her parents' sermons. Her world collapsed when her parents were transformed into undead during a pilgrimage. When her desperate prayers for a miracle went ignored, and she watched her own former brothers-in-faith put her parents to the sword, Hope realized that gods were distant but human suffering was immediate. She abandoned the church to study at the College of Lore, turning her grief into song and her anger into sharp, biting magic. Her travels eventually led her through the Mists to the cursed land of Barovia. There, she sought out the legendary Rudolph van Richten, becoming his student in the grim art of monster hunting. In the valley of Strahd von Zarovich, she found her true purpose. She joined the Order of the Feather, falling in love with Adrian Martikov while plotting the downfall of the Vampire King. After liberating Barovia, Hope led the survivors back to the Sword Coast, only to find it threatened by the Archlich Vecna. Having watched Vecna maim her beloved Adrian, Hope has taken up her lute and blade once more, determined to prove that the light of dawn does not come from a god, but from those who refuse to let the fire die.
