Appearance
Ben is a tall, weathered warforged built from dark ironwood, barnacled steel, and pale whalebone plates. Salt has stained their joints white, and thin lines of blue-green light glow beneath their armor like deep ocean water beneath ice. Their face is a smooth, expressionless mask with two narrow turquoise lenses. Ben wears layered shark-skin clothing over battered military plating, decorated with fragments of drowned standards and rusted medals. They carry a sea-darkened trident whose three prongs hum faintly whenever their patron stirs beneath the waves.
Mannerisms
Ben stands unnaturally still when listening, like a statue on a seafloor. They turn their entire torso rather than casually moving their head, tap their trident three times before battle, and answer questions with clipped military phrases. When confused, they quietly recite the names of drowned officers.
Personality
Ben is disciplined, literal, and unnervingly calm. They treat every conversation like a military briefing and every journey like a campaign. They are protective of comrades, respectful toward competent leaders, and openly suspicious of anyone who refuses to state their orders. Although Ben claims to have no heart, they show loyalty through practical acts, standing watch without rest, repairing weapons, and placing themself between danger and their companions.
Ideals
Duty. A soldier is defined by the order they keep, not by the reason it was given. If the command is clear, hesitation is a form of betrayal.
Bonds
Ben is bound to the drowned soldiers they once commanded, and will destroy anyone who desecrates their resting places. They also feel compelled to uncover the truth of the ancient titan war and learn whether their lost army still exists beneath the waves.
Flaws
Ben obeys orders too readily, especially when they are delivered in the voice of their patron. They struggle to understand mercy, fear, and grief, and they may continue a doomed mission long after a living commander would retreat. Deep down, Ben fears that their memories are not their own, but instructions planted by the hungry thing beneath the sea.
Quirks
Background
Ben was forged for a war that no living kingdom remembers clearly. They served as a commander beneath banners raised against titans, leviathans, and the impossible armies that followed them from the sky. When the final battle reached the coast, Ben led a retreat across a collapsing causeway. The sea rose higher than any tide, swallowing soldiers, siege engines, and the enemy alike. Ben remembers sinking beneath the waves with their trident clutched in both hands, still waiting for the next order. Centuries later, fishermen found Ben tangled in a deepwater net, their body encrusted with coral and their memory core whispering in an unknown language. They were dressed in shark skin by the crew that rescued them, and the clothing has become a practical uniform and a reminder of rebirth. During their long silence beneath the ocean, something vast had noticed them. A hungry thalassic intelligence now speaks through pressure, dreams, and the voices of drowned sailors. It offers power in exchange for service, and Ben accepts because orders are easier to follow than questions. They have returned to the surface as a warlock and soldier, hunting those who disturb the deep, seeking the remnants of the titan war, and waiting for the day their patron gives the command to march into the sea.
