Appearance
A lean human with a closely cropped dark undercut, weathered hands, and a scar across the left eyebrow. Usually wears practical traveler’s clothes under a polished chain mail hauberk, with a short soldier’s cloak pinned by a plain iron clasp. Carries themselves like someone who learned to stand at attention before they learned to relax.
Mannerisms
Speaks in concise, clipped sentences and unconsciously squares their shoulders before answering questions. Counts under their breath when stressed, taps two fingers against their weapon hilt when thinking, and always checks doorways and exits before sitting down.
Personality
Seren is disciplined, dryly humorous, and relentlessly dependable. They do not gush, boast, or dramatize. Instead, they show care by arriving early, carrying the heavier pack, and remembering every detail someone else forgot. They are most comfortable when there is a job to do and a plan to follow, but secretly admire reckless dreamers because they believe courage looks like believing the impossible can still be scheduled.
Ideals
Duty. People are safer when someone is willing to stand between them and disaster, even when that someone is not the strongest or the brightest in the room.
Bonds
Seren still carries a bent brass coin from the first comrade who fell beside them in training. They have sworn to deliver it to that comrade’s family, along with the truth of how bravely they stood. Seren also feels responsible for every frightened civilian they ever helped evacuate, and will go to dangerous lengths to keep ordinary people from being abandoned by their betters.
Flaws
Seren cannot tolerate being called average, even though they know it is true in every measurable way. They overcompensate by taking on too much responsibility, then resent anyone who notices how hard they are trying. When frightened, they become rigid and controlling, barking orders that sound more certain than they feel.
Quirks
Background
Seren Vale was born in the barracks district of a river city where the bells rang before dawn and the drillmasters shouted until sunset. With every ability score set at a plain, unremarkable ten, Seren learned early that greatness rarely begins in the body. It begins in routine, in surviving one more practice round, one more forced march, one more humiliating correction without letting the whole structure of the day collapse. Seren became the soldier everyone underestimated, the one who listened, remembered, and kept moving when the more gifted recruits burned out.
