Appearance
Zami is a lean, wiry Air Genasi woman with storm-gray skin, pale blue eyes, and long white hair that constantly lifts as if caught in an unseen breeze. Faint wisps of vapor curl from her shoulders when she is excited or angry. She wears weathered leather armor beneath a dark sailor's coat, with several hidden pockets, a red scarf tied around her wrist, and a collection of brass charms taken from ships she has traveled aboard.
Mannerisms
Zami tilts her head as though listening to distant wind whenever she is suspicious. She taps her fingers in the rhythm of ship bells, rarely stands with both feet planted for long, and whistles softly before attempting anything dangerous.
Personality
Zami is restless, observant, and irreverent. She distrusts grand speeches but respects practical courage, especially from people willing to work beside her. She jokes when frightened, bargains when cornered, and treats every room as if it has at least three exits. Beneath her selfish exterior, she has a fierce instinct to protect anyone she considers part of her crew.
Ideals
Freedom. No captain, king, god, or law has the right to own another person's choices. The wind belongs to no one, and neither does Zami.
Bonds
She carries a red scarf that belonged to the first captain who treated her as crew instead of cargo. She intends to discover what happened to that captain's missing ship and repay the debt, whether the captain is alive or dead.
Flaws
Zami assumes every authority figure is preparing to betray her, and she would rather risk a dangerous scheme than accept an honest favor. She is also incapable of leaving a locked chest, sealed door, or unattended purse alone.
Quirks
Background
Zami was born during a violent squall that tore half the roofs from the harbor district. The sailors who found her mother claimed that the newborn's first cry scattered the rain around the room, and that her hair never stopped moving afterward. She grew up between docks, rigging, and crowded ship holds, learning early that a quick hand and a quicker escape were more reliable than promises made by captains. Her unusual nature made her a curiosity at first, but years at sea taught her how to turn curiosity into distraction, and distraction into opportunity.
