Appearance
A lean human man with ink-stained fingers, a neatly patched shop apron over modest travel clothes, and the restless eyes of someone who knows more than he admits. He keeps a satchel full of labeled vials, chalk, wax seals, and tiny brass trinkets that faintly hum when handled. His hair is usually tied back in a practical knot, though stray strands escape when he gets excited or flustered. He wears a slightly crooked smile that makes him look friendlier than he truly feels.
Mannerisms
He taps two fingers against the nearest surface when thinking, as if counting invisible ingredients. When nervous, he launches into an overly polished sales pitch that sounds rehearsed even when he is improvising. He unconsciously straightens labels, aligns bottles, and folds scraps of parchment into neat little squares.
Personality
Polite, nimble-witted, and lightly theatrical, Elias treats everyday life like a shop counter where every problem might be solved with the right mixture of honesty, charm, and a little sleight of hand. He is generous with practical help, stingy with personal details, and always ready with a reassuring explanation that is at least half true.
Ideals
Independence. Knowledge is worth having only if it can improve lives, and no institution has the right to own wisdom just because it stamped a seal on it. A person should be free to choose their own path, even if the road looks unrefined.
Bonds
His little shop is his proof that he can build something real with his own hands, and he will protect it like family. He keeps his old spellbook, stained and margin-filled, as a reminder of who he was before he became who he needed to be.
Flaws
He cannot resist making one more sale, one more clever pitch, or one more tiny magical flourish, even when caution would be wiser. He is also deeply sensitive to academic criticism, and a sharp comment about his dropped studies can rattle him more than he would ever admit.
Quirks
Background
Elias Venn was supposed to be a proper wizard, or at least that was the promise his teachers sold him when he arrived at academy gates with a cheap robe, a borrowed spellbook, and a head full of impossible ambition. He was clever enough to pass the lectures, but not patient enough to survive them. The professors praised theory while he wanted results, practical magic that healed cuts, mended cracked pots, and made a tired farmer believe the world still had a little wonder left in it. He left before they could expel him, choosing dignity over disappointment, and built a smaller life from the scraps of his education. Now he runs a modest shop, half apothecary and half curiosity stall, where healing potions sit beside minor charms, candle-snuffing stones, self-stirring spoons, and trinkets that glow for just a moment when shaken. He is a consummate performer, because commerce is just another kind of spellcasting, and a smile can be as useful as a sigil. Beneath the easy charm is a man who still aches at the sight of a formal spell circle, still keeps his old notes hidden beneath the counter, and still wonders whether leaving wizard school was wisdom, cowardice, or the first honest choice he ever made.
