Appearance
Kethra Malys is a lean, athletic drow woman with obsidian skin, white hair cut to her jaw, and vivid crimson eyes. A fine lattice of ritual scars crosses her left shoulder and ribs, each line representing a vow made to Lolth. She wears blackened chain mail beneath layered violet and vermilion robes, tied in the manner of a surface-world samurai's formal armor. Two curved scimitars hang at her waist, their grips wrapped in spider-silk cord. Her expression is composed and severe, but her smile is intimate and unsettling, as though every conversation were a private execution.
Mannerisms
Kethra pauses before answering difficult questions, as if waiting for an unseen spider to finish spinning a web. When seated, she keeps one hand near her sword and rests the other palm-up, inviting imaginary spiders to crawl across it.
Personality
Kethra is restrained, observant, and unnervingly courteous. She speaks as though every exchange has formal rules, but she is always searching for the loophole that lets her violate them. She admires discipline, especially when it makes an enemy predictable, and treats pain as a language more honest than speech.
Ideals
Hierarchy. The strong deserve to command, the cunning deserve to survive, and Lolth alone has the right to decide which is which.
Bonds
Lolth is the only being Kethra considers worthy of unconditional loyalty. She will reclaim a fragment of House Malys's stolen temple regalia and offer it at Lolth's altar, even if doing so destroys everyone who once called her kin.
Flaws
Kethra cannot resist proving that an opponent's trust was misplaced. She will sometimes sacrifice a clean victory for the pleasure of revealing the hidden betrayal beneath it. Her devotion also makes her dangerously willing to interpret suffering, humiliation, and defeat as sacred gifts from Lolth.
Quirks
Background
Kethra was born into House Malys, a minor but ambitious drow house that prized useful daughters and discarded disappointing ones. She was sent to the temple of Lolth as a child, where she proved capable with doctrine, poison lore, and the ceremonial knives used in confession. Yet she lacked the instinct for theatrical piety expected of a priestess. Her devotion was too direct. She did not fear Lolth, flatter Lolth, or seek to interpret Lolth. She simply loved the Spider Queen with the cold certainty of a blade loving the hand that wields it. During a house feud, Kethra was ordered to assassinate a rival matron in a guarded shrine. She entered carrying a ceremonial sword, but completed the killing with a concealed needle beneath her tongue, a venomous thread around the victim's throat, and a deliberate betrayal of the guard assigned to protect her. The spiders gathered afterward, covering her armor and hair without biting. Kethra understood the sign. She abandoned the name Malys, though she still carries its shape in her posture, and remade herself as Lolth's blade. She now imitates the surface samurai she has heard described by smugglers and mercenaries, adapting their discipline into the Way of the Black Widow, a personal bushido built on treachery, hidden weapons, pain, and victory at any cost.
