At twenty-six, Sasha was asked to sit in on a negotiation between a housing cooperative and the heirs of a dissolved development trust. Everyone arrived prepared to argue about ownership. Sasha noticed that the cooperative's youngest representative kept checking whether the oldest member had eaten, and that the heirs were speaking about money because they were afraid of losing the last proof that their family had mattered. Sasha offered one precise observation, and the agreement that followed prevented a decade of litigation. Since then, the Interbellum House has called them the Oracle. Sasha dislikes the title when it sounds mystical. To them, foresight is mostly attention sustained long enough to become inconvenient. Their gift has also made intimacy difficult.
