Appearance
Ssareth is a tall, lean black-scaled dragonborn with polished obsidian scales, swept-back horns, and narrow amber eyes that rarely reveal his true thoughts. He dresses in impeccably tailored midnight-blue robes beneath a fitted leather cuirass, decorated with silver chains, courtly insignia, and a small holy symbol worn more as a badge of office than an expression of faith. His claws are kept meticulously clean, and his forked tongue flicks subtly whenever he is weighing a lie.
Mannerisms
Ssareth speaks in a calm, resonant murmur, even during moments of danger. He addresses enemies as if they were honored guests, pauses before important words to let silence do part of the work, and frequently adjusts one of the silver chains at his collar when concealing information.
Personality
I am unfailingly courteous, especially when speaking to someone I intend to ruin. I collect secrets as other people collect jewelry, and I consider every conversation an opportunity to improve my position. I prefer elegant solutions, indirect threats, and victories that leave my opponents convinced they chose their own defeat.
Ideals
Power belongs to the clever. The visible ruler attracts every blade and accusation, while the unseen architect shapes the kingdom without bearing its shame.
Bonds
The Nightcourt gave me influence when the world would have dismissed me, and I will protect it until I can quietly become its indispensable master. I also keep the last prayer book from my temple, because it contains a secret name that could destroy the court or enthrone me above it.
Flaws
I cannot resist manipulating a situation simply because I can. I underestimate anyone who appears sincere, and I would rather risk innocent lives than admit that a plan has escaped my control. Deep down, I fear being placed in a position where my words no longer matter.
Quirks
Background
Ssareth hatched beneath the cold lanterns of a temple devoted to a forgotten god of night, secrets, and inevitable endings. Though he learned the prayers, rites, and sacred histories expected of an acolyte, his true gift was not devotion. It was his voice. He discovered that a carefully chosen hymn could soothe a grieving congregation, while a softly spoken accusation could turn priest against priest. The temple elders praised his eloquence, never realizing that every sermon was also an experiment in influence. When the Nightcourt sought a diplomatic chamberlain, Ssareth wormed his way into their favor through favors, flattery, and perfectly timed interventions. He rose through the court by pacifying duels before blades were drawn, ending disputes with devastatingly polite remarks, and arranging conflicts that benefited his patrons while leaving his own hands clean. The court soon called him Silver-Tongued Ssareth, a title he accepted with a gracious bow and a private promise to make it synonymous with power. The solstice ball is his great opportunity. He intends to identify the weak, cultivate useful alliances with rival courts, and ignite just enough trouble to strengthen the Nightcourt. Yet every scheme ultimately serves him. Ssareth believes the safest throne is the one hidden behind another ruler, because whoever rules from the shadows is rarely held accountable.
