Appearance
Aldy Valor is a lean male High Elf with pale bronze skin, long ash-brown hair tied with a strip of faded blue cloth, and alert gray-green eyes. He wears a carefully maintained chain shirt beneath plain cream-and-brown clerical robes that fit slightly too loosely at the shoulders. His most noticeable possession is a small wooden holy symbol, polished obsessively smooth from constant handling. His prayer book is swollen from repairs, its pages reinforced with mismatched scraps of parchment. He carries himself with quiet attentiveness, as though listening for a voice just beyond ordinary hearing.
Mannerisms
Aldy touches the edge of his wooden holy symbol whenever he is uncertain, then answers in a calm, measured tone as though he had been certain all along. He carefully straightens crooked objects, folds scraps of paper into precise squares, and pauses before entering any room to listen for a full breath.
Personality
Aldy is observant, patient, and quietly compassionate. He speaks slowly, choosing plain words and asking people to repeat themselves rather than pretending to understand. He dislikes needless urgency, but once he decides that someone is in danger, his calm becomes immovable. He has a dry sense of humor that appears unexpectedly, usually after several minutes of complete seriousness.
Ideals
Balance. Mercy without judgment becomes indulgence, while judgment without mercy becomes cruelty. I will try to keep both in equal measure.
Bonds
The spring shrine that raised him is losing its sacred waters, and Aldy has vowed to discover whether the cause is natural, divine, or deliberate. He carries a sealed page from the shrine's oldest prayer book, entrusted to him by his former mentor, and will risk much to return with an answer.
Flaws
Aldy is painfully literal and often mistakes confidence for correctness. He can become stubborn when faced with ideas he cannot understand, hiding his confusion behind solemn pronouncements. He also has a quiet fear that his usefulness depends entirely on his ability to appear wise.
Quirks
Background
Aldy was raised in a secluded elven shrine built around an ancient spring, where generations of priests maintained records, copied prayers, and interpreted signs in the turning of the seasons. He was never gifted with scholarship. Numbers slipped from his mind, obscure histories bored him, and complicated theological arguments left him staring blankly at the ceiling. What he lacked in intellect, however, he possessed in patience. Aldy could sit beside a dying pilgrim for an entire night without complaint, and he remembered the exact words people used when asking for help. The elders eventually realized that his wisdom was not academic. It was practical, quiet, and unusually difficult to shake.
