Appearance
Neris Vojtek is a lean wood elf with tawny brown skin, long ash-blond hair usually tied with plain cord, and alert green-gray eyes. Their face is unscarred and expressive, but their most noticeable feature is the way they pause before speaking, taking a quiet breath through the nose as if measuring the room first. They wear well-fitted dark leather armor beneath a mended charcoal coat, with one carefully polished silver button that does not match the others. Their boots are soft-soled and repeatedly repaired, and a set of thieves' tools rests in a narrow, meticulously organized case at their belt.
Mannerisms
Before answering a question, Neris takes a small breath and briefly looks toward the nearest exit. They speak in a low, careful voice, with an unexpected emphasis on the second-to-last word of many sentences. When thinking, they straighten the mismatched silver button on their coat.
Personality
Neris is observant, dryly funny, and patient enough to wait out a locked door, a bad liar, or an entire argument. They dislike grand speeches but remember small kindnesses with uncomfortable precision. They are generous toward people trapped by circumstances and suspicious of anyone who describes greed as merely good business.
Ideals
Useful truth matters more than respectable appearances. If a law protects exploitation, breaking it is the cleaner act.
Bonds
I carry a coded ledger that can expose the criminal network that betrayed one of my closest friends. I will protect anyone who is being used as disposable property by the powerful.
Flaws
I assume every offer has a hidden price, and I sometimes ruin honest opportunities by searching for the trap that is not there.
Quirks
Background
Neris Vojtek was raised in a woodland settlement where elves traded resin, medicines, and carved goods with nearby human towns. Their family was respectable, but Neris discovered early that the quickest way to learn what merchants were hiding was to listen from the rafters while pretending to inventory shelves. Their talent for slipping through locked doors soon attracted the attention of a smuggling ring operating along the river roads. At first, Neris carried messages and opened unattended strongboxes. Later, they became the person sent inside when a job required patience, silence, and a convincing lie rather than a broken lock. The ring eventually sold out one of its own members to protect a wealthy patron. Neris survived the betrayal, but refused to accept the money earned from it. They vanished into the roads with a ledger containing names, debts, and coded payments. Now they work as an adventurer, taking legitimate contracts when possible and quietly using the ledger to dismantle the network that taught them their trade. Neris does not consider themselves redeemed. They consider themselves responsible, which is heavier and, in their view, more useful.
