- Divine SenseLevel 1
The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your senses to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover.
- Lay on HandsLevel 1
Your blessed touch can heal wounds. You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you take a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit points equal to your paladin level x 5. As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore a number of hit points to that creature, up to the maximum amount remaining in your pool.

- Ship's PassageSailor
When you need to, you can secure free passage on a sailing ship for yourself and your companions. You might sail on the ship you served on, or another ship you have good relations with. Because you're calling in a favor, you can't control the ship's schedule or destination. In return for your passage, you and your companions are expected to assist the crew during the voyage.

Appearance
A burly old man with sun-damaged skin, a thick white beard that smells like tobacco and salt, and eyes that have seen too many storms. He wears heavy chain mail under a weathered blue sea-cloak.
Mannerisms
Barnaby spits on the ground before making a point and often taps his hammer against his shield to get someone's attention.
Personality
Gruff and constantly complaining about his knees or the quality of the rations, Barnaby uses humor to mask his genuine concern for others. He speaks with a thick nautical accent and values honesty above all else. He is stubbornly committed to his own ways but possesses a hidden, dry wit.
Ideals
Discipline. Without a chain of command and a clear set of rules, society is just a ship waiting to sink in the first storm it encounters.
Bonds
I carry the compass of my first mentor, who taught me that a healer is the true heart of any vessel. I will not let it fall into the hands of those who do not respect the sea.
Flaws
I am incredibly stubborn and find it nearly impossible to admit when a younger person has a better idea, even when they are right.
Quirks
Background
Barnaby spent forty years as a naval surgeon and master-at-arms, serving on the edge of the known world. He learned quickly that medicine was as much about force of will as it was about bandages. One night, while treating a dying cabin boy in the middle of a supernatural storm, he felt a warmth ignite in his chest. He did not pray, he simply ordered the boy's heart to keep beating. The boy lived, and Barnaby has been stubbornly ignoring the divine source of his new powers ever since. He retired from the fleet after his last captain chose gold over the lives of the crew, taking his shield and his sense of duty with him. Now he wanders the roads, treating wounds and yelling at anyone who tries to thank him too much. He is convinced that the gods are just particularly loud admirals who need to be occasionally obeyed but mostly managed.
“He learned quickly that medicine was as much about force of will as it was about bandages.”
