Appearance
Mishka is a lithe, broad-shouldered elf woman with warm copper-brown skin, thick dark hair braided with pale grass and tiny clay beads, and calm amber eyes. She dresses in layered green and ochre wool beneath a weathered leather coat, with a round wooden shield painted in faded concentric circles. Her hands are unusually noticeable, strong and deeply callused from years of gathering roots, copying manuscripts, carving plant charms, and climbing highland terraces. Her voice is soft and rounded, with a gentle breathiness that becomes clipped and nearly silent when she is frightened or furious.
Mannerisms
She rolls a calligrapher's pen between her fingers while thinking, pauses before answering as if listening to distant weather, and lowers her voice rather than raising it when angry. When rattled, her breathing becomes shallow and audible, and she presses both thumbs into the grain of her shield until she can speak again.
Personality
Mishka is quietly observant, practical, and difficult to impress. She prefers questions to declarations and often studies people as carefully as she studies plants. Her curiosity is generous when someone is sincere, but she has little patience for institutions that hoard knowledge or demand obedience without explanation. She can be unexpectedly warm around children, old workers, gardeners, and anyone who treats tools with respect.
Ideals
Knowledge belongs in motion. A truth locked in one person's hands is only another kind of burial.
Bonds
She carries a water-stained fragment of an ancient field journal belonging to the archivist who taught her. She will risk almost anything to recover the missing pages and return the complete record to her valley.
Flaws
She treats social rules as poorly tested theories and abandons them whenever they become inconvenient. Mishka is also capable of withholding vital information simply because she wants to see what people do without it.
Quirks
Background
Mishka grew up among an elven community built into the green folds of a high mountain valley, where terraced gardens clung to the slopes and old stones were treated as patient relatives rather than ruins. Her first lessons came from an aunt who tended medicinal plants and from a reclusive archivist who allowed Mishka to copy damaged manuscripts in exchange for hauling water and repairing shelves. The work taught her that knowledge was never truly separate from the soil that preserved it. A forgotten name in a book could identify a poisonous flower, a vanished spring, or an oath that still bound the living.
“The work taught her that knowledge was never truly separate from the soil that preserved it.”
