Appearance
Ziph'el is a tall, powerfully built bronze dragonborn with burnished copper-bronze scales, swept-back horns, and pale gold eyes. His left horn is wrapped with blue sailor's cord, and a faded tattoo of a storm wave circles his right forearm. He wears practical monk's garments beneath a weather-stained sailor's coat, with his shortsword and darts secured for quick movement. His posture is unnervingly still, like a ship at anchor in calm water.
Mannerisms
Ziph'el pauses before answering difficult questions, as if listening for the rhythm of waves. He stretches his fingers before combat, counts under his breath when walking unfamiliar ground, and instinctively studies the nearest exit, window, or source of fresh water.
Personality
Ziph'el is quiet, observant, and patient, but never passive. He treats conversations like changing tides, watching for hidden currents before committing himself. He is courteous to strangers, fiercely protective of crewmates, and most comfortable when he has a practical task to perform.
Ideals
Balance. The sea never stays still, and neither should the soul. Every force must be met with an equal measure of patience, strength, or motion.
Bonds
He carries a length of blue cord from the ship that first took him to sea. He has sworn to learn the fate of its missing crew and repay the monastery that saved his life.
Flaws
Ziph'el distrusts calm waters, quiet rooms, and anyone who claims to have nothing to hide. He is slow to forgive cowardice, especially his own, and sometimes risks himself needlessly because surviving the impossible has become part of how he proves his worth.
Quirks
Background
Ziph'el was born beneath the thunderheads of a coastal dragonborn settlement, where his family served as deckhands, navigators, and storm-watchers. As a young sailor, he learned to read wind and current before he learned to read books. During a disastrous crossing, the ship he served upon was caught in a supernatural squall. Ziph'el survived by clinging to a broken mast for three days, guided by a distant bell that no one else could hear. When he finally reached shore, he was taken in by a secluded monastery built above the cliffs, where the monks taught him that balance was not stillness, but the ability to remain centered while everything around him moved.
“As a young sailor, he learned to read wind and current before he learned to read books.”
