Appearance
Hek is a lean wood elf with warm brown skin, dark hair cut blunt at the jaw, and a habit of watching doorways without turning their head. Their patched green-brown clothes are clean where it matters and threadbare at the cuffs. They smell faintly of damp cedar and the sharp soap used in market kitchens, a scent they know and consider useful. Before speaking, they take a small, quiet breath through the nose, as if testing the room.
Mannerisms
Hek waits half a breath before answering, then speaks in a low, even voice. They keep one hand near a pocket when entering a new room and tend to stand where they can see both the door and the nearest window.
Personality
Practical, observant, and quietly generous, Hek has little patience for grand promises but remembers small kindnesses for years. They use dry humor to test whether someone can be trusted.
Ideals
No one should have to earn the right to sleep safely. A city is judged by how it treats the people who keep its ovens lit and its streets swept.
Bonds
Hek still leaves food at the shuttered kitchen door where Gerg once worked, and quietly watches over the children who sleep near the cistern stairs. They mean to find out who ordered the drains beneath that neighborhood sealed, a decision that drove several families into the street.
Flaws
Hek assumes every offer of help comes with a hidden price. When someone is in danger, they often act before they have a plan, then pretend the consequences were part of it.
Quirks
Background
Hek was raised among the cramped lanes below the old cisterns, where an elf's long years were worth little against an empty bowl. They learned the city by its smells: yeast near the ovens, lamp oil around the night stalls, and the sour rush of water before a drain backed up. A kitchen porter named Gerg took them in for a time, not out of kindness exactly, but because Hek could slip through a crowd with a tray and return with every cup. When the kitchens closed, Hek kept the small knife, the habit of listening, and the knowledge of which doors were left unlatched.
