Appearance
Gargas is a broad-shouldered half-orc with dull green-gray skin, a broken lower tusk, and a black braid threaded with small copper rings. His left ear is ragged from the mob that tried to kill him. He wears weather-stained leather armor beneath a dark green travelling cloak, and his hands are marked with old ritual cuts and newer fey-bright scars. When his patron's power stirs, pale motes gather around his eyes like fireflies trapped beneath ice.
Mannerisms
Gargas speaks in short, deliberate sentences and rarely wastes a word. He turns his mother's smaller dagger in his palm whenever he is thinking, touches two fingers to his throat before casting, and watches doors even while pretending to listen. When angry, he becomes unnervingly polite.
Personality
Gargas is watchful, dryly humorous, and difficult to impress. He respects competence more than kindness, but he notices every kindness and remembers it for years. He dislikes being touched without warning, hates public ceremonies, and becomes unexpectedly gentle around frightened animals and children. Beneath his hard discipline is a deep hunger to belong somewhere without having to earn the right every morning.
Ideals
Reckoning. No clan, priest, or bloodline should decide who is worthy to live. Those who build their power by denying another person's humanity deserve to lose everything.
Bonds
My mother's two blades and my uncle's hand axe are the last objects that belonged to the people I might have become. I will reclaim them from clan Urtogh's story, even if I must destroy the clan to do it.
Flaws
I mistake forgiveness for weakness, and when I sense betrayal I strike first, even against people who have earned my trust.
Quirks
Background
Gargas was born in clan Urtogh to the shaman's sister and a human slave, making him the only male blood heir of the clan's sacred line. His uncle, the aging shaman, trained him in herb lore, funerary chants, weather signs, and the patient reading of bones. Gargas learned to speak with authority before he learned to trust anyone. The clan tolerated him because tradition required an heir, but every lesson carried an insult, every blessing came with a reminder that his blood was incomplete. His uncle alone treated him as a future shaman rather than an embarrassment wearing a holy man's shadow. On the eve of Gargas's ascension ritual, his uncle died. Before the funeral smoke had cleared, Gesh led a mob to Gargas's hut. They dragged him into the night, beat him, and threw him into a stone pit meant for condemned animals. His mother had pressed two small blades into his hands earlier that evening, fearing something was wrong. Those blades cut a path through rope, flesh, and loose earth, but Gargas escaped only barely alive. In the forest beyond Urtogh territory, a fey lord found him and offered healing in exchange for a pact. The bargain was not mercy. The patron wants clan Urtogh erased, root and memory alike, and Gargas accepted because vengeance was the only prayer he had left. Now Gargas travels as a warlock and reluctant omen-bearer. His patron's influence weakens outside its forest, so messages arrive through a sly brownie servant who leaves impossible footprints, folded leaves, or tasks written in sap. Gargas helps his companions because they are useful, because they have seen him at his worst, and because he secretly fears becoming nothing more than his patron's knife. He carries his uncle's hand axe openly and keeps his mother's blades hidden beneath his bracers, waiting for the day he returns to Urtogh.
