Appearance
Branwen is a tall half-elf with clean noble features, silver-brown hair worn tied back, and sharp gray-green eyes that miss very little. He favors practical courtly clothes in muted blue and charcoal, with a well-kept signet ring and a travel-worn cloak lined for rain. His hands are ink-stained, his posture immaculate until the moment he relaxes among common folk, when his shoulders soften and his expression becomes unexpectedly warm.
Mannerisms
Branwen speaks carefully and often pauses as though choosing between three better sentences. When thinking, he taps one finger against his signet ring. Around laborers and servants, he unconsciously lowers his voice and listens with his full attention, as if refusing to waste their words.
Personality
Branwen is thoughtful, courteous, and quietly stubborn. He believes competence is a form of respect, so he tries to be prepared, punctual, and useful in every room he enters. He is genuinely kind to common folk, but he can be sharp and impatient with aristocrats who still expect deference. He prefers persuasion to threats, however his temper turns cold and exact when he sees the weak being exploited.
Ideals
Liberty. No one should be ruled by cruelty simply because cruelty inherited a title. Freedom is worth defending, but it must be made sturdy enough to survive the first panic, the first coup, and the first cowardly compromise.
Bonds
He is fiercely loyal to the new republic and to the ordinary people whose courage made it possible. He keeps a folded copy of the revolution's first declaration in a hidden pocket, and he will risk much to see its promises survive.
Flaws
Branwen still speaks with the confidence of someone born to command, even when he is wrong. He can be condescending without meaning to be, especially toward the wealthy and the reactionary, and his contempt sometimes makes him slower to notice when ordinary people need comfort more than strategy. He also carries the dangerous habit of believing that if a system is just, it will survive a few compromises, even when history says otherwise.
Quirks
Background
Branwen Farsight was the wrong sort of son for his house, at least by the standards of his parents and their peers. He was polite enough, but never cruel enough to servants, never eager enough for ballroom vanity, and never interested in the endless little performances of inherited power. On the estate, he preferred the company of tenant farmers and stable hands, listening to complaints about rents, weather, and foremen with a seriousness that embarrassed his tutors. In time he discovered that arcane study gave him the one thing his family truly respected, proof that he could be brilliant on his own terms. Then the revolution came. Resentment that had simmered for decades finally boiled over, and the old order burned faster than anyone expected. Branwen was not swept away by the mob, because he had long since earned the trust of the people the nobility had ignored. He became a mediator, then a planner, then one of the new republic's state mages when the smoke cleared and the banners changed. Now he travels as an arcane diplomat, trying to win foreign support for a fragile experiment in self-rule. He does not see himself as a hero of history, only as a man trying to make sure the common folk are never again asked to kneel for the convenience of their betters.
