Appearance
Ignatius is a tall, broad shouldered Dragonborn with deep red scales that shimmer like cooling embers. His skin is uniquely speckled with matte black, obsidian-like patches on his snout and shoulders. He wears heavy chain mail polished to a mirror finish, adorned with the sigil of a silver shield and a rising sun. His amber eyes are unusually gentle, lacking the typical reptilian coldness, and he carries a heavy shield that looks as much like a tool of rescue as a tool of war.
Mannerisms
Ignatius always lowers his head and bows slightly when speaking to smaller folk to appear less threatening.
Personality
Ignatius is the personification of a warm hearth, steady, reliable, and welcoming. Despite his intimidating draconic frame, he speaks with a soft, resonant baritone and displays a paternal protective instinct toward everyone he meets. He believes that true strength is measured by how much comfort one can provide to others in a storm, and he rarely loses his temper, preferring to solve conflicts with the same patience his human father showed him.
Ideals
Community. The heat of a single coal is fleeting, but a hearth kept by many can survive any winter.
Bonds
I carry my mother's silver shield and my father's prayer book. My greatest duty is to live up to the kindness they showed me.
Flaws
I am often too trusting of those who claim to be in need, and I have a hard time believing that some creatures are inherently irredeemable.
Quirks
Background
Ignatius’s life began in the deep, sulfurous volcanic tunnels beneath the industrial town of Arnrock. He was discovered as a large, obsidian speckled egg in the clutches of Duergar. Convinced they had stolen a Red Dragon egg, the Duergar intended to sell him to a warlord as a living weapon. Before the trade could be completed, they were intercepted by Sir Kaelen and Father Thomas. When the shell cracked to reveal a wide eyed Dragonborn infant, the couple saw it as a blessing from their god, Sirrion. They retired from adventuring to raise him as their own son in Arnrock, teaching him the tenets of the Silver Shield and the warmth of the holy flame. Growing up in the soot covered streets of an industrial town, Ignatius learned to appreciate the hard work of laborers and the importance of a community that looks out for its own. He spent his youth assisting in the local temple, balancing the rigorous combat training of his mother with the theological studies of his father. Though he looks like a creature born of volcanic malice, his heart is entirely human, shaped by the love of two parents who saw a soul where others saw a monster. Now, he sets out to bring the light of the Hearth-Keep to the darker corners of the world, treating every stranger as a potential member of his extended family.
