Appearance
Maeve is a six-foot-tall Human woman with a towering, athletic build, broad shoulders, thick arms, a narrow waist, and powerful legs built like armor under the skin. Her pale, sun-warmed complexion is marked by silvery battle scars, including one across her left eyebrow and another around her right wrist. She has a square jaw, high cheekbones, a slightly crooked nose, sharp jade-green eyes, and a crown of short, spiked crimson hair. In this portrait she wears a black loose-fitting tank top and grey sweatpants, barefoot, with no armor, weapons, or shield, seated in a modern home room with two chairs and a low round table, her expression calm, watchful, and formidable.
Mannerisms
When Maeve is thinking, she rolls her shoulders once and taps two knuckles against her opposite palm, as if checking her own readiness. She speaks in short, measured sentences, but in battle her voice becomes clipped, clear, and commanding. She rarely sits with her back to a door, and when she enters a room she always notes exits, sightlines, and where the heaviest object is placed.
Personality
Maeve is disciplined, blunt, and unexpectedly protective. She values preparation, restraint, and clean execution, but she is not cold at heart, her affection simply shows up as practical help, a hand on the shoulder, or standing between danger and someone weaker. She has a dry sense of humor, a soldier's patience for pain, and a deep dislike of posturing. Around people she trusts, she becomes steadier and more candid, even gentle in her own rough way.
Ideals
Duty. Strength is only honorable when it protects those who cannot protect themselves. A soldier's first loyalty is not to glory, but to the lives placed in her care.
Bonds
She still keeps the small silver ring on a leather cord because it belonged to the one comrade who taught her that strength without mercy is just another kind of weakness. Maeve will not abandon soldiers under her care, even when the order is bad and the odds are worse.
Flaws
Maeve trusts competence more than kindness, and she can become icy with anyone she thinks is careless, loud, or unprepared. She struggles to let other people take the lead in a crisis, even when doing so would be wiser, because a part of her still believes that if she is not controlling the battle, someone else will die. She also has a dangerous habit of underestimating the emotional weight of her own actions, treating wounds she can see as more real than the damage she leaves behind.
Quirks
Background
Maeve was raised in the hard school of drills, marching, and bruised knuckles. She joined a professional martial company young, not because she loved war, but because war was the only place where her strength had a clear use and her discipline could be turned into something that protected others. She learned early that raw power meant little without timing, formation, and the calm to see three moves ahead. The battlefield shaped her body, but the barracks shaped her mind. By the time she earned the title of Battle Master, Maeve had become the sort of soldier commanders trusted when the line was breaking and the kind of enemy that made veterans swallow hard. She studies people the way others study maps, notes patterns in footwork, breath, and hesitation, and uses that knowledge to end fights before they become massacres. Off the field she is quieter than her reputation suggests, preferring simple rooms, honest company, and the rare luxury of silence. Her scars are not trophies to her, only evidence that she has survived long enough to keep choosing the harder right over the easier wrong.
