Creatures have disadvantage on melee attacks against him. His movement speed doubles and his jump distance triples. His attacks and Flurry of Blows gain four additional attacks, and these benefits require no ki. He regains all ki when entering the state, loses 1 ki at the end of each round, and must make a Constitution saving throw each round after reaching 0 ki. On a failure, the state ends, he gains 4 points of exhaustion, and takes 10d10 necrotic damage.

Appearance

Spectre stands six feet two inches tall, with a lean, athletic build shaped by constant movement and combat. His roguishly handsome face bears a day's worth of dark stubble, framed by short, neatly trimmed brown hair. His sharp eyes possess an unsettling perceptiveness, as if they are always studying the distance between moments. He wears a high-collared black doublet with silver embroidery, a crisp white shirt with ruffled cuffs, dark trousers, polished black leather boots, and a heavy black wool cloak trimmed with black and brown fur. A silver clasp fastens the cloak at his throat. His clothing resembles that of a noble lord, refined and authoritative without being ostentatious.

Mannerisms

Spectre adjusts his silver cloak clasp whenever he is about to lie. He addresses strangers with polished courtesy, often calling them by titles they have not earned. When considering a threat, he becomes completely still, then moves all at once. He rarely raises his voice, believing that quiet words make people lean closer.

Personality

Spectre is effortlessly charming, detached, and observant. He makes people feel fascinating because he listens with complete attention, remembers tiny details, and responds with smooth, aristocratic wit. Beneath that charm lies a profound reserve. He rarely reveals genuine fear, affection, or uncertainty, preferring to keep every relationship slightly beyond reach. His confidence borders on arrogance, but his discipline keeps it controlled.

Ideals

Order. The universe may be strange and unknowable, but discipline gives shape to chaos. Every promise, debt, and consequence must have a place.

Bonds

The hidden monastery beneath the old city is his true home, and he will protect its surviving students at any cost. He also carries a small token from the street child who once shared food with him, though he refuses to say what became of that friend.

Flaws

He is so confident in his ability to return from death that he sometimes treats mortal danger as an inconvenience. Spectre hoards secrets, manipulates allies through carefully chosen truths, and becomes coldly unforgiving when anyone threatens the few people or places he considers his own.

Quirks

He counts doorways whenever entering a building.
He leaves a single coin at the site of every death he witnesses.
He occasionally speaks to an unseen echo standing just behind him.
He dislikes sitting with his back to an open room.
He can identify most city districts by their smells alone.

Background

Spectre remembers the city before it had its current name. He was raised among alleyways, abandoned cellars, and crowded markets, learning early that hunger could be defeated by patience, observation, and knowing when not to be seen. His first teachers were street thieves, silent beggars, and an old pit fighter who recognized that the boy possessed an unusual instinct for balance. Under that fighter's guidance, Spectre learned to turn every movement into a weapon, every retreat into an advantage, and every apparent defeat into an opportunity to rise again. His path changed when he discovered a hidden monastery beneath the city's oldest district. The monks there taught him that the body was not a prison, but a doorway into deeper realities. Spectre mastered their disciplines, then surpassed them, developing techniques that allowed him to create echoes of his own motion, fold short distances, and step through the instant between life and death. He claims that death has taken him many times, but never managed to keep him. Whether this is immortality, supernatural resilience, or simply an elaborate lie remains uncertain. Now he travels as a nobleman without a known house, gathering secrets, repaying old debts, and searching for the unseen force that first taught him how to return from the grave.
