Appearance
Gor‘nak is a broad, heavily built tortle with a weathered, moss-green shell marked by pale spiral patterns and several old cracks sealed with gold resin. His skin is deep olive, his eyes are amber and patient, and a short braided cord hangs between his eyes, decorated with carved seeds and a tiny wooden sun. He carries a gnarled quarterstaff wrapped in living vines and wears humble acolyte vestments beneath a travel-stained green cloak.
Mannerisms
Gor‘nak pauses for several seconds before answering difficult questions. He touches the edge of his shell when praying, tilts his head toward distant birds when thinking, and refers to time in terms of seasons, tides, and the growth of trees.
Personality
Gor‘nak is patient, compassionate, and quietly observant. He prefers to listen until he understands the roots of a conflict before acting. Though he speaks gently, his convictions are immovable when innocent lives or the natural world are threatened. He has a dry sense of humor and enjoys watching impatient people become frustrated by his unhurried pace.
Ideals
Mercy. Life is precious in all its forms, and strength exists to shelter the vulnerable rather than dominate them.
Bonds
The sacred spring where Gor‘nak was hatched must never be polluted or desecrated. He carries the last living seeds of his destroyed temple and will risk anything to restore its grove.
Flaws
Gor‘nak is slow to forgive anyone who harms the helpless or desecrates nature. Once he decides someone is a threat, he can become stubbornly certain of his judgment and refuse reasonable compromise.
Quirks
Background
Gor‘nak was hatched beside a spring revered by a small woodland temple, where the priests taught that every living thing carried a fragment of the world’s first breath. His slow, deliberate nature made him an excellent acolyte. While other initiates hurried through their prayers, Gor‘nak listened to the wind in the reeds, watched insects build their homes, and learned to recognize sickness in a tree before its leaves changed color. The temple eventually entrusted him with the care of its sacred grove, where he learned the Druidic tongue from an ancient hermit and began to understand faith as a living relationship rather than a set of empty rituals. When loggers and a corrupt noble threatened the grove, Gor‘nak left the sanctuary for the wider world. He sought allies among communities that had been displaced, healed those injured by the conflict, and awakened the anger of the forest against those who treated nature as property. His devotion remains gentle but unyielding. He believes civilization can flourish without destroying the wild, and he travels as a priest, healer, and protector, carrying the temple’s seed-vault within a hollow compartment in his shell. Every seed represents a promise that something good can grow again.
“His slow, deliberate nature made him an excellent acolyte.”
