Appearance
Shepherd is a broad, towering goliath with slate-gray skin, pale blue markings across his shoulders, and thick black hair braided with small wooden prayer tokens. He stands with most of his weight resting on one leg, as though waiting patiently beside a flock, and tilts his head whenever someone speaks as if listening for a distant bell. His enormous hands are deeply callused from years of carrying firewood, tending mountain animals, and gripping a shepherd's crook, though he keeps his fingernails carefully clean. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath cream-colored vestments, a polished wooden holy symbol at his chest, and a broad woolen mantle that smells faintly of cedar smoke. His expression is gentle, attentive, and quietly certain.
Mannerisms
Shepherd speaks softly, almost never raises his voice, and frames nearly every statement as pastoral advice. He calls strangers lambs until they prove dangerous, then calls them wolves with the same gentle tone. When waiting, he rests both hands atop his mace or holy symbol and rocks subtly from heel to toe as if keeping time with a hymn.
Personality
Shepherd is warm, attentive, and endlessly patient. He remembers small details about people's meals, sleep, injuries, and worries, then quietly arranges solutions without asking permission. He offers reassurance with absolute confidence, as though every crisis is simply a flock straying toward a ravine. He enjoys company, tends to stand too close, and regards stubborn independence as an endearing but dangerous phase.
Ideals
Guidance. Every soul deserves warmth, food, healing, and a steady light in the dark. If people lose their way, someone must have the courage to lead them, and Shepherd is certain that someone is him.
Bonds
The mountain shrine where Shepherd was ordained is his true home. He will defend its clergy, relics, and pilgrims, and he intends to return one day with enough influence to make every nearby settlement follow his guidance.
Flaws
Shepherd cannot accept that another person's refusal might be wisdom rather than fear, pride, or corruption. He interprets disagreement as bleating from a confused lamb or growling from a concealed wolf. He is sincerely kind while overriding other people's choices, which makes his certainty difficult to challenge without appearing cruel.
Quirks
Background
Shepherd was raised among a high mountain clan that measured a person's worth by how well they protected those who could not protect themselves. As a young man, he served as a watchman, herder, and winter caretaker, learning to read weather, animal behavior, and the subtle silences that preceded disaster. When an avalanche buried part of the clan's winter camp, Shepherd spent three days digging through the snow, carrying survivors to warmth and speaking prayers until his voice failed. A passing priest from a distant shrine found him still working and brought him into the faith, where Shepherd learned that tending bodies and tending souls were, in his view, merely two kinds of shepherding. At the temple, Shepherd proved patient, generous, and almost impossible to discourage. He learned scripture quickly, but he interpreted every teaching through the image of a flock gathered around its keeper. Over time, his prayers became less like petitions and more like announcements. He no longer asks whether the divine will approves of his judgment. He assumes that wisdom has already placed the lantern in his hand. Shepherd travels now because he believes the world is full of frightened lambs and wolves wearing friendly wool, and because he has decided that wherever he goes, someone must be calmly, lovingly, and firmly led.
