Appearance
Gwen is a striking tiefling woman with vivid red skin, sharp black horns swept back from her brow, and molten gold eyes that seem to measure distance, timing, and weak points at a glance. Her tail is long and expressive, usually held still only when she is concentrating. She wears practical blackened plate with polished steel edges, scarred by a hundred duels, and carries herself like a woman who expects every room to become a battlefield if she stays long enough. Despite the severity of her armor, there is an almost theatrical elegance to her stance, like a veteran fencer who learned long ago that intimidation is a weapon.
Mannerisms
She speaks in short, economical sentences and often pauses before the final word, as though weighing whether the truth needs extra force. Gwen counts exits automatically when entering a room, taps the pommel of her sword when considering a choice, and smiles only after a plan succeeds. In conversation, she tilts her head slightly when testing someone’s confidence, like a duelist measuring range.
Personality
Coldly composed, razor intelligent, and strangely protective, Gwen is the kind of woman who looks at chaos and starts sorting it into priorities. She enjoys control, not cruelty, and has a dry sense of humor that appears most often when others are panicking. Though she presents herself as detached, she cares deeply about competence, loyalty, and anyone who survives by wit instead of privilege.
Ideals
Freedom. No master, gang, crown, or spell should own a person’s life. Skill should decide outcomes, not birth or titles. Gwen believes the world is honest only in battle, where every advantage must be earned.
Bonds
She still keeps a list of old names, gang favors, and debts owed, not because she trusts the underworld, but because she refuses to let it forget her. Gwen protects the few people who once sheltered her in the alleys, even if she pretends otherwise. She also carries a battered brass lockbox that once held her first stolen haul, and she has never opened it since the night she left her old crew behind.
Flaws
Gwen trusts almost no one without proof, and even then only until they give her a reason not to. She has a habit of treating every conversation like a negotiation and every kindness like a debt waiting to come due. When she feels cornered, she becomes cuttingly blunt, sometimes cruel, and she would rather walk away alone than admit she needs help.
Quirks
Background
Gwen was born in a city where the bells rang for the rich and the alleyways belonged to everyone else. Her tiefling blood marked her immediately, red skin and horned silhouette making her memorable in a neighborhood where forgetting a face could mean death. She learned early that fear was a currency, and she spent her youth stealing not just purses, but opportunities, secrets, and exits. She was fast, clever, and difficult to corner, which made her valuable to smugglers and dangerous to anyone who tried to claim her as property. The criminal crews that raised her taught her how to survive, but they also taught her the cost of trust, every promise had a blade hidden in it somewhere. Eventually Gwen traded the shadows for steel. She found that she liked battle for the same reasons she had once liked burglary, it rewarded nerves, timing, and clean execution. The first time she stood in a shield wall, calm while others panicked, she realized she had been a fighter all along, just without the proper title. She learned the discipline of the battle master by studying opponents the way she used to study locks, searching for the one flawed hinge that would bring the whole structure down. Now she wanders from contract to contract, neither hero nor villain, simply a woman who believes that every system has weak points and every tyrant eventually bleeds.
