Appearance
A lean tabaxi with tawny fur, dark ear tufts, and pale amber eyes. He wears simple monk wraps, prayer beads made from polished bone, and a light satchel filled with notes and ink-stained papers. His claws are neatly trimmed, his whiskers twitch constantly when he is thinking, and he moves with a coiled, predatory grace.
Mannerisms
He speaks in quick, precise sentences, pauses to tap his claws against whatever surface is nearby, and unconsciously circles a room while thinking. When excited, his tail lashes once before he pounces into action.
Personality
Inquisitive, witty, and hard to pin down. Maxwell treats life like an ongoing investigation, half monk, half collector of improbable facts. He is polite when bored, razor sharp when intrigued, and unexpectedly generous to anyone who respects a secret without wasting it.
Ideals
Curiosity. Truth matters more than comfort, and every hidden thing deserves to be challenged, studied, or stolen back from oblivion.
Bonds
He carries the last notebook of the vanished scholar and will risk nearly anything to recover the rest of that lost work. He also feels responsible for the monastery that raised him, even though he refuses to return until he has earned answers of his own.
Flaws
He cannot resist following a mystery, even when common sense screams that he should walk away. When someone claims a secret cannot be found, he becomes impulsive and reckless, sometimes gambling safety on the promise of one more clue.
Quirks
Background
Maxwell was raised in the quiet archive halls of a desert monastery, where tabaxi pilgrims came and went like wind over sand. He was never the strongest student, but he was the quickest, often slipping between stacks of scrolls to retrieve forgotten texts before the elders finished asking for them. He learned early that knowledge could be hunted like prey, and that a sharp mind paired with a lighter step could uncover truths that brute force never would. The monastery taught him discipline, while the endless books taught him curiosity, and he discovered that he loved both too much to obey either completely. When a senior scribe vanished after uncovering a hidden passage about an ancient relic, Maxwell followed the trail of clues instead of orders. That chase ended with bruises, broken lamps, and a revelation that the monastery had been guarding secrets it no longer understood. He left with a pouch full of notes, a set of callused hands, and a vow to keep moving until he found the missing scholar and the truth behind the relic. Now Maxwell wanders as a monk who treats every conversation like a puzzle, every ruin like a library, and every fight like a test of whether the universe is worth taking seriously.
