When When Bristle uses a spell or Magical Tinkering
Bristle casts a spell or activates an artificer device, making small tools, lenses, and copper wire flash with arcane energy.
- Magical TinkeringLevel 1
Bristle can use tinker's tools to imbue a Tiny nonmagical object with one minor magical property, such as emitting light, recording a message, producing an odor or sound, or displaying a message. He can maintain up to three such objects at once, and the effect lasts until he dismisses it or creates a fourth object.
- SpellcastingLevel 1
Bristle has learned to cast artificer spells. He uses Intelligence as his spellcasting ability and can use thieves' tools or artisan's tools as a spellcasting focus. He knows two artificer cantrips and can prepare three 1st-level artificer spells after a long rest.
- DarkvisionGoblinBristle can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.
- Fury of the SmallGoblinOnce per short or long rest, when Bristle damages a creature larger than him, he can deal extra damage equal to his proficiency bonus.
- TraitGoblinGoblin resilience and compact build grant him a 30-foot walking speed despite his small size.
- Guild MembershipGuild Artisan
As a member of an artisan guild, Bristle can obtain lodging and food from other guild members, secure basic assistance, and gain access to workshops and tools where his guild has influence. Guild members will usually support one another, though they expect dues and respect for guild customs.

Appearance
A wiry, soot-smudged goblin with rust-red skin, oversized amber eyes, and a narrow face crowded with chipped teeth. Bristle wears patched leather armor beneath a stained tool harness, with copper wire braided through his ragged black hair. His left ear bears three tiny brass rings, each attached to a different device whose purpose he refuses to explain. His fingers are permanently darkened by oil, charcoal, and alchemical residue.
Mannerisms
Bristle speaks rapidly while disassembling objects, pauses mid-sentence to listen to nearby machinery, and taps his front teeth whenever calculating a measurement. He refers to dangerous tests as demonstrations and to explosions as unexpected illumination.
Personality
Bristle is cheerful, suspicious, and intensely practical. He treats every problem as a machine with a hidden access panel, including arguments, curses, and social etiquette. He is delighted by competent craftsmanship, offended by waste, and incapable of giving a simple answer when a technical one might be more entertaining. Beneath his manic confidence, he is desperate to prove that goblin ingenuity is not merely useful, but indispensable.
Ideals
Creation. A well-made invention deserves to exist, even if the world is not yet prepared to understand it. Especially then.
Bonds
I owe my life and my craft to Vech Tlacoyan, the guild artisan who saw a maker in me instead of a menace. I will repay that debt by finding the missing plans for his greatest unfinished invention, even if the plans are hidden inside something that is still active.
Flaws
Bristle cannot leave a working mechanism alone. If something functions perfectly, he becomes convinced it is hiding a more interesting function and will modify it without permission. He also lies by omission whenever someone asks what an invention was originally designed to do.
Quirks
Background
Bristle was born beneath a collapsed tannery in a goblin warren where broken things were more valuable than intact ones. He learned early that a bent nail could become a spring, a cracked kettle could become a pressure vessel, and a suspiciously warm stone could become somebody else’s problem. His first successful invention was a self-stirring soup pot. His second was a self-stirring soup pot that attempted to escape. The guildsfolk who witnessed the incident did not appreciate the distinction, but they did recognize talent, and an elderly clockmaker named Vech Tlacoyan took him on as an apprentice. At the guild workshop, Bristle developed a reputation for immaculate workmanship and alarming design notes. He can repair a crossbow trigger by touch, identify an alloy by its smell, and produce a perfectly balanced device from scraps that should not fit together. Unfortunately, he also has a habit of naming inventions according to their current function rather than their original purpose. His portable heater was once a siege engine. His lockpick was once a surgical instrument. His compass was once intended to locate buried people, preferably before they stopped moving. After an experiment destroyed half the guild roof, Bristle left with his tools, his debts, and a sealed brass cylinder that whispers whenever he gets near a dungeon. He insists it is harmless. He also insists the cylinder is not listening.
“His first successful invention was a self-stirring soup pot.”
