Appearance
A tall, broad-shouldered wood elf with weathered copper skin, long ash-brown hair bound with leather cord, and pale green eyes that rarely stop scanning the horizon. His left forearm bears faded military tally marks, while his cloak is patched from old army blankets and forest-dyed wool. He carries himself like a soldier even when at rest, with a spear within reach and a longbow kept carefully waxed.
Mannerisms
He checks every exit upon entering a room, silently counts arrows before and after a fight, and performs small military stretches whenever he is forced to wait. When thinking, he rubs the broken patrol insignia hanging at his throat.
Personality
Quiet, disciplined, and observant, Caelir speaks with blunt precision and dislikes wasting words. He is unexpectedly patient with frightened animals, recruits, and children. Around campfires he listens more than he talks, but when he does tell a story, every detail is exact.
Ideals
Balance. No banner, crown, or creed is worth allowing one side to destroy everything around it. I protect what can endure and oppose whatever threatens the balance.
Bonds
He carries the broken insignia of the patrol he saved, and he will risk himself to protect any soldier abandoned by an uncaring commander.
Flaws
He obeys orders instinctively until the moment he realizes they are wrong, then overcorrects with reckless defiance. Caelir is slow to forgive commanders, suspicious of idealists, and quietly convinced that needing help is a weakness he cannot afford.
Quirks
Background
Caelir Thornmarch was raised among the deep green paths of an ancient wood, where his people measured time in generations and remembered every scar left upon the land. He was already unusually fascinated by the brief, urgent lives of mortals when a border war brought an army to the forest edge. Caelir enlisted rather than watch his home become a battlefield. The army valued his endurance, his sharp senses, and his talent for moving unseen through terrain that swallowed ordinary scouts whole. Years of campaigning taught Caelir that war was rarely about justice. Orders came from distant rulers, while soldiers and villagers paid the price. During one disastrous retreat, he disobeyed a command to abandon a wounded patrol and guided the survivors through hostile woodland by moonlight. The act saved lives but cost him his rank. Now he travels as a ranger and freelance outrider, tracking monsters, deserters, and war bands wherever they threaten the balance between civilization and wilderness. He does not serve a flag anymore. He serves the next trail, the next village, and the quiet judgment of the land beneath his boots.
