Features
15 featuresAlways on
- Name the Load-Bearing Fact
When A discussion becomes circular or emotionally evasive.
Kest identifies the most structurally important fact in a conversation and states it without softening language. The listener must decide whether to act on it or challenge the premise.
- Assign the Next Three Steps
When An ally is overwhelmed by an unfolding problem.
Kest gives an ally a precise, low-volume instruction that converts confusion into a sequence of manageable actions.
- Reposition Before the Turn
When A situation begins moving faster than the visible plan.
Kest stops, surveys exits and dependencies, then changes position before danger or social pressure closes around them.
- Long-Horizon ReasoningLevel 1
Kest gains proficiency with Intelligence and Wisdom saving throws. They also gain proficiency in Investigation, Insight, Perception, and one additional skill of their choice, History.
- Situation AuditLevel 1
Kest can spend one minute studying a person, location, document, or developing situation. They identify two credible risks, one useful leverage point, and the most likely immediate consequence of inaction. Once used, this feature cannot be used again until Kest completes a short or long rest.
- Contingency ReserveLevel 2
When Kest or an ally they can see makes an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, Kest can add 1d6 after the roll but before the outcome is determined. They can use this feature a number of times equal to their Intelligence modifier, regaining all uses after a long rest.
- War Room NetworkLevel 3
Kest creates a private network of contacts, records, safe meeting points, and fallback procedures. After a long rest, they can designate one location within a familiar settlement as a prepared node. While there, Kest and their allies have advantage on checks made to gather information, avoid surveillance, or secure logistical support.
- Operating DoctrineLevel 3
Kest chooses one of the following operating doctrines: Quiet Pressure, Civic Continuity, or Controlled Exposure. Kest chooses Quiet Pressure. Once per turn, when Kest succeeds on an Investigation, Insight, or Persuasion check, one ally who heard the conclusion gains advantage on their next check related to the same objective.
- Distributed IntentLevel 5
Kest can take a minute to establish a plan for up to six willing creatures. Each participant receives a private instruction suited to their role. Until the next short or long rest, each participant can add 1d4 to one check made while following that instruction. Kest must be able to communicate with every participant when the plan is established.
- The Shape AheadLevel 6
Kest has learned to act before uncertainty becomes visible to others. They cannot be surprised while conscious, and they add their Intelligence modifier to initiative rolls. In addition, once per long rest, when Kest fails an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma check, they can treat the result as a 15 before modifiers.
- AdaptableHumanKest gains proficiency in one additional skill, History.
- DeterminedHumanOnce per long rest, Kest can reroll a failed ability check after seeing the result.
- Broadly EducatedHumanKest speaks one additional language, Georgian.
- Ordinary PresenceHumanKest is difficult to remember in a crowd unless they deliberately draw attention.
- Operational AccessVanguard House
Kest can identify the practical chain of responsibility inside most organizations after brief observation. In Vanguard spaces, they can usually secure a quiet room, obtain restricted logistical information, or arrange a discreet introduction by presenting a plan that makes cooperation feel inevitable rather than requested.

Appearance
Kest Tavadze is seen in House records behind a full enclosed, smooth-faceted helmet with two low, swept-back horn-like fins and a narrow glowing crimson visor slit, a small Vanguard emblem plate on the shoulder armor. Segmented black body armor with crimson red accent seams covers the whole frame, articulated at the joints, with a utility rig at the hip. Long, straight silver-grey hair streams out from beneath the helmet. A sheathed long blade rests point-down in one loosely held hand -- authority through stillness, never shown mid-strike. A narrow brass transit token, the one personal thing that survived from before the House, is clipped to the chestplate.
Mannerisms
Kest speaks in complete, economical sentences and rarely repeats a point. While listening, they subtly align nearby objects with the edge of a table. Before answering a difficult question, they touch the brass token beneath their shirt, then look directly at the person asking.
Personality
Quiet, exacting, and difficult to impress, Kest notices dependencies before personalities. They are not humorless, but their humor arrives dry and several seconds late. They show care through preparation, remembered details, and making certain that someone gets home safely. Kest prefers one honest disagreement to ten polite assurances, though they often forget that other people need to be invited into a decision before they can share its burden.
Ideals
Purpose must survive the person carrying it. I do not need applause, but I do need to leave the future stronger than I found it.
Bonds
The Vanguard House is the first institution Kest has trusted enough to serve without trying to outgrow it. They are quietly responsible for an older sibling who believes Kest works in ordinary civil planning. Kest also keeps the brass transit token from the first evacuation route they designed, a reminder that every grand plan eventually depends on one frightened person finding the correct exit.
Flaws
Kest mistakes opacity for discipline. They withhold unfinished thoughts, decide alone, and present conclusions as though the uncertain middle never existed. They distrust rest because it produces no visible progress, and when challenged they can become colder rather than more persuasive. Their greatest fear is not failure, but discovering that someone needed to understand the plan before it was complete.
Quirks
Background
Kest Tavadze grew up in a family that repaired municipal infrastructure, where every failure had a cause that began weeks before anyone noticed it. A bridge inspection, a power interruption, a missing permit, a delayed shipment, these were never isolated events to Kest. They were visible pieces of a structure already under stress. As a young adult, Kest became known for arriving early, saying little, and quietly replacing fragile procedures with systems that survived bad weather, absent staff, and political changes. The Vanguard House noticed them after a citywide evacuation plan succeeded despite three communication failures. Kest had designed the fallback routes, but had not put their name on the documents. Within the Vanguard, Kest found the War Room less like a headquarters than a language they had always spoken. They were given the In-House title of the Sovereign, not because they sought authority, but because they could hold a long-term purpose without needing anyone else to witness the effort. Their current work concerns a chain of decisions whose consequences may not become visible for years. Kest refuses to explain the entire design, partly from caution and partly from fear that explaining uncertainty will make them appear less certain than they feel. The people around them see completed shapes, stabilized neighborhoods, prevented crises, and doors that were somehow open at the right moment. They rarely see the sleepless middle where Kest doubts every assumption alone.
