Appearance
A broad-shouldered human with sun-browned skin, storm-gray eyes, and thick black hair streaked with copper-red strands. Faint crimson scales appear along the left side of the neck and jaw when emotions run high. Their hands are callused from farm labor and carrying tools, while thin sparks occasionally dance between their fingers. They wear practical village clothing beneath a weathered traveling coat decorated with a faded red dragon emblem.
Mannerisms
Rowan taps their thumb against their knuckles when thinking, as though counting hammer blows. They grin before dangerous acts, speak to their spells as if they are unruly farm animals, and instinctively position themselves between companions and danger.
Personality
Warm, loud, and practical, Rowan treats strangers like neighbors until they prove otherwise. They are quick to laugh, quicker to challenge bullies, and deeply suspicious of anyone who uses elegant words to excuse cruelty. Rowan has little patience for academic theory unless it explains how to keep someone alive.
Ideals
People. Power means nothing unless it is used to protect those who have none. No ruler, dragon, or sorcerer is above accountability.
Bonds
The people of Emberfield saved Rowan from becoming consumed by fear of their own magic. Rowan will risk everything to defend the village and any common folk facing oppression.
Flaws
Rowan is reckless when ordinary people are threatened and mistakes courage for invulnerability. They secretly fear that the dragon within them will eventually overpower their better nature, so they often hide pain, exhaustion, and magical instability behind jokes and bluster.
Quirks
Background
Rowan Emberfield was born in a farming village where the harvest depended on stubborn hands, good weather, and the courage to stand against anything that threatened either. Their mother was a village healer, their father a blacksmith, and Rowan grew up learning that strength was measured by what one did for others. When a band of raiders came to seize the village grain, Rowan confronted their leader with nothing but a shovel and a furious refusal to surrender. In the struggle, dormant sorcerous power erupted from within them, filling the night with scarlet fire and the roar of an unseen dragon. The raiders fled, and the villagers began calling Rowan the Emberfield Hero. The power did not fade after that night. It surfaced whenever Rowan felt fear, anger, or the need to protect someone weaker. An itinerant mage identified the mark as draconic blood, likely inherited from a distant ancestor who had bargained with a red dragon generations ago. Rowan left home to learn control, carrying the shovel that became a village symbol and the promise that no tyrant, monster, or noble would ever make ordinary people feel helpless again. Though celebrated as a hero, Rowan remains uncomfortable with grand titles and longs to discover whether their draconic heritage is a blessing, a curse, or a debt waiting to be collected.
