Appearance
Auburn-haired human man with neatly kept stubble and pronounced sideburns, pale scholar’s hands marked by ink and dust, dressed in a tailored robe beneath a practical travel coat. He carries an elegant black-and-silver cane with a concealed blade, a spellbook worn at his hip, and a well-stocked alchemical components pouch. His posture is upright, his gaze measured, and even in the field he looks as though he stepped out of a private academy.
Mannerisms
He speaks precisely, often pausing before a sentence as if editing it in his head first. He adjusts his cuff or the cane’s grip when thinking, and he glances at inscriptions, seals, or maps with the same intensity other people reserve for faces. When displeased, he becomes colder rather than louder.
Personality
Polite, deliberate, and quietly exacting, Eyvindr treats every conversation like a formal exchange of evidence. He is courteous even when he disagrees, but his courtesy has edges. He respects competence, self-discipline, and clean reasoning, and he considers recklessness a form of intellectual laziness. Beneath that composed exterior is a real fascination with the world, a scholar’s hunger that makes him genuinely delighted by inscriptions, relics, and elegant magical theory.
Ideals
Knowledge is a civic duty, and truth should be preserved with the same seriousness as a royal charter. Civilization endures only when records are kept, laws are respected, and power is placed in disciplined hands.
Bonds
He carries his late mentor’s seal ring inside a pocket watch case, and he will not abandon a site, manuscript, or artifact entrusted to his care. He also feels responsible for proving that his family’s name stands for more than quiet wealth and cautious respectability.
Flaws
He can become condescending when someone disregards evidence or interrupts a careful procedure. He also has trouble walking away from a mystery once he suspects an older truth is being buried, even if doing so would be wiser. In moments of stress, his need for control can make him brittle and overly formal.
Quirks
Background
Eyvindr Finnson was born to a minor but respectable family that valued education, ledger work, and impeccable manners. His earliest memories are of candlelit rooms, careful handwriting, and the sound of his father correcting a single misplaced word as if it were a mortal sin. While other youths took to fields or forges, Eyvindr took to maps, excavation reports, and old imperial inventories. He learned very early that ruins were simply arguments left behind by dead civilizations, and he became determined to read them better than anyone else. His talent for wizardry emerged not as a wild spark but as a precise, almost academic extension of his archaeological work. He began with copied diagrams, measured cantrips, and protective wards used to keep dust, traps, and overconfident rivals at bay. By the time he left the archives for the field, he had become a gentleman scholar with a reputation for impeccable composure, a sharp blade hidden in his cane, and a habit of cataloging danger before he ever named it. Eyvindr now wanders from barrow to barrow and archive to archive, seeking lost truths, forgotten laws, and relics that can be preserved, studied, or, when necessary, sealed away forever.
