Appearance
Leef is a lean wood elf woman with russet-brown skin, long dark hair braided with bits of green thread, and bright amber eyes that constantly measure exits, distances, and hands. She moves with a quiet, spring-loaded gait, favoring the balls of her feet and rarely allowing her heels to make a sound. Her fingers are callused across the palms and knuckles from climbing, bow work, lockpicking, and years of gripping rough brick. She wears practical studded leather softened by travel, a weather-stained green cloak, and a belt crowded with pouches, cord, and small tools. Her most noticeable habit is the way she idly tests every door, latch, and window she passes, even while speaking.
Mannerisms
Leef stands slightly angled toward the nearest exit and keeps her hands occupied while listening, usually winding cord around one finger or checking the edge of a dagger with her thumb. She speaks softly and quickly, then pauses to study the other person's reaction before answering further.
Personality
Leef is alert, irreverent, and compassionate in ways she tries to disguise as practicality. She dislikes grand speeches but remembers small details about people's needs, such as who limps, who is hungry, and who is pretending not to be afraid. She enjoys clever locks, bad jokes, and any plan that leaves the powerful embarrassed rather than dead.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be owned, trapped, or forced to obey merely because someone else possesses greater power. Laws are tools, and tools should serve people rather than crush them.
Bonds
The stolen ledgers are hidden somewhere only Leef can reach, and she will risk almost anything to keep them from the mercenary company that bought people from her former criminal employers.
Flaws
Leef assumes every favor has a hidden price and every authority figure is lying. She is also dangerously unwilling to abandon stolen evidence, even when protecting it puts an entire group in jeopardy.
Quirks
Background
Leef grew up in the shadowed edges of an elven settlement where ancient trees met a busy trade road. She learned early that laws were often written to protect those who already possessed land, titles, and guards. Her first crimes were small and practical, stealing medicine for an injured stablehand and food for children abandoned by a caravan. Her talent for moving unseen soon brought her to the attention of a smuggling ring, where she became a courier, lookout, and eventually a burglar capable of crossing guarded estates without disturbing a single sleeping hound. The turning point came when the ring began selling refugees and woodland families to a mercenary company. Leef sabotaged the operation, freed the captives, and vanished into the wilderness with the ring's ledgers. The criminals survived, and they still want those records destroyed, but Leef has since used her knowledge of roads, patrols, traps, and hidden caches to protect people who cannot protect themselves. She now works as a ranger, hunting the predators who hide behind respectable uniforms and legal contracts. She insists she is only balancing accounts, though anyone who watches her long enough can see that she has started building something more hopeful than revenge.
