Appearance
Winston Sinclair is a lithe, amber-furred tabaxi with a white muzzle, ringed tail, and bright green eyes that miss almost nothing. His clothes are practical but eccentric, a dark hooded criminal's coat layered over a wizard's neat linen shirt, with ink stains on one cuff and a lockpick hidden in the other. He keeps his spellbook tied to his belt in oilcloth, as if it were both treasure and evidence.
Mannerisms
Winston speaks politely even when he is planning a heist, and he taps his claws against his teeth when thinking. When nervous, he circles a room once before sitting, as if confirming every exit. He never enters a place without noting the windows first.
Personality
Curious, urbane, and surprisingly gentle, Winston treats danger like a puzzle and people like a responsibility. He is often amused, rarely cruel, and has a habit of helping first and explaining later.
Ideals
Freedom. No law is sacred if it exists only to protect the comfortable from the desperate. Power should be used to open doors for others, not to keep them shut.
Bonds
He still carries the first spellbook he ever stole, and he treats it like a sacred relic because it changed his life. He protects apprentices, runaways, and anyone the powerful would rather erase, because someone once did that for him.
Flaws
Winston cannot resist a locked box, a sealed letter, or a forbidden room, even when common sense says to walk away. He also trusts criminals more easily than nobles, which sometimes leads him into trouble with people who are only slightly less honest than the ones he used to rob.
Quirks
Background
Winston Sinclair was born in a river-port quarter where the respectable people locked their doors at dusk and the thieves locked theirs at noon. As a tabaxi, he grew up being told that curiosity would get him killed, which only made him more curious. He learned early that a quick paw, a quicker tongue, and a talent for slipping through shutters could keep a hungry catfolk alive. By the time he was old enough to shave the fur from his cheeks, Winston could crack a merchant's strongbox, imitate a magistrate's handwriting, and vanish from a rooftop before the alarm bell finished ringing. His turning point came during a job that should have been simple, a burglary of a minor lord's study. Instead of jewels, he found a spellbook, a circle of chalk, and a terrified apprentice begging for help. Winston ran with the book under one arm and the apprentice under the other, then spent the next year teaching himself to read every mark in it. The law still remembers him as a criminal, and the underworld still thinks of him as useful, but Winston has decided that his talent for theft is best used to steal back stolen things, secrets, and sometimes people. He is a wizard now, though the old habits remain. He studies like a scholar, sneaks like a burglar, and treats every locked door as an insult.
