Broken keeps a careful ear for alleyways, lockkeepers, smugglers, and anyone who survives by secrets. In practice, he can usually find a back door, a fixer, or a fence when one exists, because criminals tend to recognize the signs of one another.

Appearance
A gaunt human man with wind-chapped skin, dark hollow eyes, and a perpetual look of exhaustion. He dresses in patched traveler’s clothes under a worn leather jerkin, with a blackened ritual brand hidden near the collarbone and a thin ring of frost scar tissue tracing one wrist. His hair is unkempt and pale at the edges, as if winter itself has bleached it. When his temper rises, a faint rime of cold gathers on metal nearby.
Mannerisms
He speaks softly, almost apologetically, and pauses before answering as if weighing whether truth will help or harm. When nervous, he rubs his thumb across the inside of one wrist, where the old cold-bite scar begins. He avoids direct questions about his past, but he watches exits, hands, and the weather with equal care.
Personality
Quiet, vigilant, and unnervingly patient. Broken tries to act with restraint even when the world expects savagery from him, but the restraint feels like a stitched wound, one bad night away from opening. He values practical solutions, keeps his promises once given, and rarely wastes words. Beneath that stern surface is a bruised tenderness for the starving, the abused, and anyone forced to choose between shame and survival.
Ideals
Survival without surrender. He believes a person should do what is necessary to live, but never so completely that they become a monster with no memory of mercy.
Bonds
He cannot forget the faces of the starving companions he betrayed, and he secretly leaves food or coin where the desperate might find it. He also clings to the memory of the one small spark of decency he still believes remains inside him, and he will not let his patron, or anyone else, take that last remnant without a fight.
Flaws
He trusts hunger more quickly than kindness, because hunger at least is honest. He can be cruelly practical when cornered, and in moments of fear he is capable of choosing the coldest possible solution if it seems like survival. He also carries a private shame that makes him reject comfort, praise, or pity, as if he does not believe he has earned them.

Background
Broken was never meant to be a name, only a verdict. He was born into cold hunger and learned early that survival belonged to those who could think faster than they could bleed. Among the beggars and drifters he huddled with, he was always the smallest, the one sent into the snow for rats, scraps, or whatever could be traded for another night of breathing. He planned, he scouted, he endured. The others called it usefulness, and usefulness was the closest thing he had to affection. Then the food failed. Winter tightened its grip, and the gentle lie of brotherhood turned into a pack of starving beasts wearing human faces. When the final hunger came, Broken chose the knife. He told himself it was mercy, or necessity, or simply one death to prevent many, but guilt did not care about his reasons. It followed him like a blizzard under his skin. Something vast and cruel noticed that guilt, and offered him relief through a pact. Broken accepted, not for power, but for silence. He was taken into the shadow of a fiendish patron, used once more as a tool, and came away alive, colder, and no longer sure whether the piece of good still left in him was a blessing or a curse.
