Appearance
Premie is a lean, sharp-featured human man with dark brown hair worn just long enough to brush his collar and a neatly trimmed beard. His green eyes are bright, attentive, and constantly measuring distances, exits, and weaknesses. He dresses like a well-funded traveler, favoring a charcoal coat, fitted leather gloves, polished boots, and a deep blue scarf concealing the lower half of his spellcasting hand. His spellbook is disguised as a ledger of debts and contracts.
Mannerisms
Premie smiles whenever a conversation becomes dangerous. He taps two fingers against his spellbook while thinking, maintains unwavering eye contact when lying, and casually addresses people by name after hearing it only once.
Personality
Premie is charming, observant, and conversationally effortless. He treats bounty hunting as a social art, preferring to talk his targets into revealing where they will run rather than chase them through the streets. He is unfailingly polite while working, remembers small personal details, and enjoys making people underestimate him. Beneath the easy confidence is a restless mind that is always calculating risk, profit, and the most likely betrayal.
Ideals
Information is power. Secrets belong to whoever is clever enough to uncover them, and morality is often just a luxury purchased by people who already have choices.
Bonds
He keeps the first page of his original spellbook, signed by the arcanist who taught him, and will risk everything to protect that mentor from the criminal syndicate that now wants the book's secrets.
Flaws
Premie cannot resist taking a profitable contract, even when he knows the client is corrupt or the target is sympathetic. He also believes he is always the smartest person in the room, which makes him careless around anyone who recognizes the pattern.
Quirks
Background
Premie Jager was born to ordinary human dockworkers who taught him two things early, how to read a person's intentions and how quickly a missed payment could ruin a life. He discovered magic while working as a courier for a minor arcanist, memorizing fragments of spells from discarded notes and learning that knowledge could open doors more quietly than any lockpick. His natural charm made him useful to smugglers, gamblers, and information brokers, while his growing talent for illusion and divination made him exceptionally difficult to catch. When a wealthy magistrate hired Premie to find a fugitive, the job ended with Premie discovering that the target was innocent and had been framed by the magistrate's own family. Premie completed the contract, but secretly arranged the family's downfall through carefully planted evidence and a series of anonymous predictions that sent their rivals into a frenzy. Since then, he has operated as a discreet bounty hunter and arcane investigator, tracking people for money while convincing himself that he chooses only deserving prey. He prefers to capture rather than kill, but his definition of deserving becomes flexible whenever the payment is generous enough.
