Appearance
Grick is a small, wiry goblin with moss-green skin, bright amber eyes, and a narrow face framed by large, expressive ears. They wear battered leather armor beneath an oversized artisan's apron, both carefully patched with mismatched scraps of dyed hide. A polished brass thimble hangs from a cord around their neck, and they constantly straighten it whenever they become nervous. Their wooden shield is painted with tiny curling vines, while their quarterstaff is wrapped in colorful strips of cloth collected from old guild projects.
Mannerisms
Grick repeatedly straightens the brass thimble at their throat, taps their staff three times before entering unfamiliar places, and whispers measurements to themself whenever examining an object or creature.
Personality
Grick is observant, practical, and cheerfully suspicious. They show affection by repairing damaged belongings, offering unsolicited improvements, and quietly standing between vulnerable people and danger. They are fascinated by surface customs, especially formal guild etiquette, and often attempt to imitate it with excessive bows and solemn declarations. Despite their sharp survival instincts, Grick is genuinely hopeful and believes nearly anyone can become better if given the right tools and a patient teacher.
Ideals
Repair is a form of mercy. Nothing living or useful should be discarded merely because it is inconvenient, strange, or difficult to understand.
Bonds
The guild workshop that gave Grick a place in the world must be protected, and the dying woodland that awakened their magic must eventually be healed.
Flaws
Grick cannot resist taking apart unfamiliar objects, even when they are urgently needed intact. They also assume that anyone in authority is hiding something, and their suspicion sometimes turns allies into suspects.
Quirks
Background
Grick was raised among the refuse heaps and mushroom gardens beneath a prosperous city, where goblin families survived by repairing what the surface folk threw away. They discovered an unusual talent for turning scraps into useful things, especially leather straps, padded gloves, and tiny protective charms. A patient cobbler named Master Pell brought Grick into the city artisans' guild as an apprentice, expecting a quiet helper and receiving a relentless question-asker who treated every cracked buckle and torn satchel as a puzzle worth solving. When a blight spread through the guild's imported hides, Grick noticed that the sickness followed shipments from a nearby woodland. The guild dismissed the observation as goblin superstition, so Grick followed the trail alone and found a dying grove poisoned by careless extraction. The grove's last awakened tree taught them the first secrets of Druidic magic. Grick now travels as a wandering craftsperson and guardian, repairing tools, protecting wild places, and exposing anyone who treats living things as disposable materials. They still send a portion of every adventuring reward back to Master Pell, along with increasingly strange requests for waterproof thread and enchanted awls.
