Appearance
A lithe, tawny-furred Tabaxi woman with rounded features, dark rosettes along her shoulders, and a long expressive tail. She wears well-kept leather armor beneath a moss-green traveling cloak, with a shortbow across her back and a small tambourine tied to her pack. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice that she rarely looks directly at whoever is speaking. Her gaze moves instead to windows, doorways, rooftops, hands, and unattended objects, quietly measuring every possible exit and opportunity. Without realizing it, she repeatedly adjusts the cord around her left wrist, checking that a small wooden bead remains secure.
Mannerisms
She watches hands and exits more than faces, tilts her head when weighing whether someone is telling the truth, and taps a soft rhythm on her thigh whenever she is thinking. When excited, she leans forward without noticing and her tail curls into a loose question mark.
Personality
Nabira is gentle, observant, and quietly playful. She prefers to make people comfortable before she studies them, often using a joke, a little music, or an apparently careless question to lower their guard. She dislikes being the center of attention for long, but enjoys controlling the rhythm of a room. She is patient with frightened animals and children, suspicious of officials, and deeply curious about anything that leaves tracks.
Ideals
Balance. The road belongs to no one, and every creature deserves a chance to pass safely. Nabira helps where she can, but she does not believe the world can be forced into fairness.
Bonds
She carries a wooden bead from her old caravan's travel cord and will risk herself to protect wandering performers, peddlers, and other people who live by the road. She also intends to discover what happened to the ranger who taught her how to track.
Flaws
She cannot leave a mystery alone once it has caught her attention, even when investigating it is reckless, impolite, or likely to get her companions into trouble. She also treats direct questions as challenges to evade, often answering with a story that is entertaining but only partly relevant.
Quirks
Background
Nabira grew up among a wandering Tabaxi caravan that followed seasonal markets, river festivals, and the roads between them. Her family earned their living through music, acrobatics, improvised comedy, and the careful exchange of rumors. Nabira was never the loudest performer, but she had a gift for noticing what the audience missed, a purse string loosened by distraction, a suspicious guard watching the wrong doorway, or a child about to wander into danger. Her performances became less about applause and more about keeping people safe while everyone was looking elsewhere. When a caravan route was threatened by a series of disappearances, Nabira joined the search with a retired ranger who had once been one of her family's regular patrons. She learned to read spoor, judge weather by the smell of the air, and move quietly through unfamiliar country. The missing travelers were eventually found, but the ranger did not return from the final search. Nabira took up the ranger's bow and continued traveling, performing wherever she went while quietly tracking threats that prey on the road-bound and overlooked. She claims she is only following interesting trails, though she keeps a careful list of every person who has helped her and every road that has taken someone away.
