Appearance
Bokk is a lean, wiry hobgoblin built for speed and endurance. His pale, sickly grayish-red skin is marked by faded scars, while his sharp face, high cheekbones, pointed chin, and watery blue eyes give him a perpetually hungry appearance. Greasy dark brown hair is tied into a loose, untidy ponytail, with stringy strands falling around his face. His left ear bears a tarnished silver ring. He wears mismatched scavenged armor, including a dented steel breastplate over a threadbare brown tunic, patched leather greaves, cracked boots, and a mud-stained dark wool cloak. Crude dwarven runes cover his forearms. A notched shortsword hangs at his hip, with a curved dagger tucked into his belt and a bulging leather satchel slung over one shoulder.
Mannerisms
Bokk moves in quick, jerky motions and rarely stands with his back to a door. He speaks rapidly, often interrupting himself to correct a detail or add a threat disguised as advice. His pale eyes constantly scan exits, hands, and pockets. When lying, he smiles too broadly and rubs the tarnished ring in his left ear.
Personality
Bokk is a bundle of nervous energy, bravado, and calculated insecurity. He is observant, opportunistic, and relentlessly practical. He flatters superiors, intimidates weaker allies, and treats every conversation as a contest over information. He is not cruel merely for pleasure, but he is perfectly willing to be cruel when it secures food, safety, money, or status.
Ideals
Control. The safest place in the world is above everyone else, with enough leverage to make disobedience more dangerous than loyalty.
Bonds
I owe my survival to the old mercenary company that raised me, and I will protect its surviving veterans when doing so is profitable or strategically useful.
Flaws
Bokk assumes every kindness is a transaction and every friendship is a trap. He will betray an ally without hesitation if the cost of loyalty becomes higher than the benefit. His fear of poverty and helplessness makes him greedy, suspicious, and incapable of leaving a useful secret buried.
Quirks
Background
Bokk was orphaned before he was old enough to remember his parents, abandoned among the supply carts of a hobgoblin warband. He survived by stealing rations, memorizing guard rotations, and learning which officers could be flattered and which ones needed to be feared. When a mercenary company absorbed the warband, Bokk enlisted as a scout and runner. He was never the strongest fighter, but he understood battlefields as systems of hunger, fear, and opportunity. He noticed weak points, carried messages through impossible terrain, and always made certain that someone more important was blamed when a mission failed. Over the years, Bokk climbed through the ranks by turning information into leverage. He learned the habits of enemy patrols, the private debts of officers, and the exact price of loyalty. His ranger training grew from necessity. He became skilled at tracking deserters, hunting fugitives, and moving unseen through hostile country, while his Gloom Stalker talents made him especially dangerous in darkness. Bokk now serves no banner except the one that protects him. He dreams of a fortified command, a locked treasury, and enough secrets to ensure that no superior can ever discard him again. He calls this ambition prudence. Those who know him call it fear wearing a uniform.
