Appearance
Trixx is a small, wiry kobold with rust-red scales, oversized ears, bright amber eyes, and a narrow snout usually dusted with metal filings. He wears practical scale mail beneath a soot-darkened leather apron, with a shield covered in chalk diagrams and tiny brass fittings. A battered jeweler's loupe hangs from a cord around his neck, its leather strap polished smooth where he constantly grips it while thinking. His tail is decorated with several colorful wire rings, each marking a successful invention or a favor owed.
Mannerisms
Trixx constantly adjusts the brass loupe at his throat, even when he is not using it. When excited, he taps a rapid rhythm against his shield and narrates his own calculations under his breath. He refers to dangerous experiments as 'encouraging data.'
Personality
Trixx is cheerful, intensely curious, and much more confident in his inventions than in his social judgment. He treats every problem as a machine with a hidden solution, including arguments, haunted ruins, and interpersonal tension. He is generous with repairs, protective of overlooked people, and delighted whenever someone takes his work seriously. His optimism is genuine, but it is frequently accompanied by sparks, loose screws, and a plan that has not been tested enough.
Ideals
Ingenuity. No problem is impossible, only insufficiently understood. Knowledge should be used to make ordinary people's lives safer, stranger, and better.
Bonds
The guild artisan who sponsored Trixx is ill and depends on the income from Trixx's inventions. Trixx will risk almost anything to repay that faith and preserve the guild workshop that gave him a future.
Flaws
Trixx cannot leave a mechanism alone once he notices it. He will dismantle useful equipment to understand it, confidently promise that the reassembly will be easy, and then become defensive when everyone else asks him to stop experimenting.
Quirks
Background
Trixx was hatched beneath a ruined mining town, where his kobold clan survived by scavenging discarded tools and repairing abandoned machinery. Unlike most of his clutchmates, he was fascinated by the reasons things broke. He learned to sort useful scrap from worthless metal, then began trading small repairs to passing miners. His first successful invention was a spring-loaded lantern shutter that let miners signal one another without exposing their position to monsters in the dark. A traveling guild artisan recognized Trixx's talent and sponsored his entry into a metalworkers' guild. There, he became an enthusiastic, troublesome student, learning arcane infusions, alchemical principles, and the delicate craft of setting gemstones. His unusual ideas were often dismissed as unsafe until they worked, usually with a spectacular shower of sparks. Trixx now travels to acquire rare components, protect vulnerable communities, and prove that ingenuity belongs to anyone willing to keep trying after the first twelve explosions.
