- Hack and Slash
When When you attack an enemy in melee
When you attack an enemy in melee, roll+Str. On a 10+, you deal your damage to the enemy and avoid their attack. At your option, you may do +1d6 damage but expose yourself to the enemy's attack. On a 7-9, you deal your damage to the enemy and the enemy makes an attack against you.
- Volley
When When you take aim and shoot at an enemy at range
When you take aim and shoot at an enemy at range, roll+Dex. On a 10+, you have a clear shot and deal your damage. On a 7-9, choose one: you have to move to get the shot, putting yourself in danger of the GM's choice; you have to take what you can get, dealing -1d6 damage; or you have to take several shots, reducing your ammunition by one.
- Defy Danger
When When you act despite an imminent threat
When you act despite an imminent threat or suffer a calamity, say how you deal with it and roll the appropriate ability. On a 10+, you do what you set out to do and avoid the threat. On a 7-9, you stumble, hesitate, or flinch, and the GM will offer you a worse outcome, hard bargain, or ugly choice.
- Defend
When When you stand in defense of a person, item, or location under attack
When you stand in defense of a person, item, or location under attack, roll+Con. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. While defending, you may spend hold one for one to redirect an attack from the thing you defend to yourself, halve the attack's effect or damage, or open up the attacker to an ally, giving that ally +1 forward against the attacker.
- Spout Lore
When When you consult your accumulated knowledge about something
When you consult your accumulated knowledge about something, roll+Int. On a 10+, the GM will tell you something interesting and useful about the subject. On a 7-9, the GM will only tell you something interesting. The GM may ask you how you know this.
- Discern Realities
When When you closely study a situation or person
When you closely study a situation or person, roll+Wis. On a 10+, ask the GM three questions from the list. On a 7-9, ask one. Take +1 forward when acting on the answers: What happened here recently? What is about to happen? What should I be on the lookout for? What here is not what it appears to be? What is the true position of this person or thing?
- Parley
When When you have leverage over a GM character and manipulate them
When you have leverage over a GM character and manipulate them, roll+Cha. Leverage is something they need or want. On a 10+, they do what you ask if you first assure them you will do what they ask. On a 7-9, they will do what you ask, but need some concrete assurance of your promise right now.
- Deity
When When you choose or reaffirm the deity you serve
You serve and worship a deity who grants you spells. Name your deity and describe their domain and precepts with the GM. Your deity grants you the ability to cast cleric spells and may grant special boons when you act according to their precepts.
- Commune
When When you spend uninterrupted time in communion with your deity
When you commune with your deity, roll+Wis. You are granted some useful knowledge or boon related to your deity's domain. On a 10+, the GM will give you clear and useful information. On a 7-9, the information is helpful but incomplete, cryptic, or accompanied by a cost.
- Cast a Spell
When When you cast a cleric spell granted by your deity
When you unleash a spell granted to you by your deity, roll+Wis. On a 10+, the spell is successfully cast and your deity does not revoke it, so you may cast it again later. On a 7-9, the spell is cast, but choose one: you draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot; the spell is revoked and you cannot cast it again until you commune; or you take -1 ongoing to cast spells until you commune. Note that some spells may have additional effects.
- Turn Undead
When When you hold your holy symbol aloft and call upon your deity
When you hold your holy symbol aloft and call upon your deity, roll+Wis. On a 7+, so long as no one is actively trying to harm you, undead cannot approach you. On a 10+, you also momentarily daze intelligent undead, and they cannot act except to flee or cower. On a 6-, you are still in danger, but the effect may be weaker, stranger, or costly at the GM's discretion.
- Divine Guidance
When When you petition your deity according to your religion's precepts
When you petition your deity according to the precepts of your religion, you are granted some useful knowledge or boon appropriate to your deity's domain. The GM will tell you what it is.
- Human Faith
When When you pray to your deity for guidance or aid
When you pray to your deity, you are granted some useful knowledge or boon appropriate to your deity. The GM tells you what it is.

Appearance
Nova has weather-browned skin, bright green eyes, and thick copper hair usually tied back with a strip of blue cloth. They are broad-shouldered and wiry from years of walking, climbing, and hauling shrine bells. Their layered traveling robes are patched in mismatched colors over chainmail, and a sunburst holy symbol hangs from a cord at their throat. When waiting, Nova leans forward onto the balls of their feet as if expecting the world to suddenly require immediate action.
Mannerisms
Nova taps their holy symbol against their knuckles while thinking, then makes decisions with sudden certainty. They greet frightened animals before greeting people and tend to stand between danger and whoever looks least prepared for it.
Personality
Warm, impulsive, and fiercely attentive to suffering. Nova treats strangers as potential friends until they prove otherwise, then treats even enemies as people who might still choose to stop causing harm. Their faith is joyful, practical, and occasionally inconveniently loud.
Ideals
Devotion
Bonds
____ once stood between me and a death sentence, so I will not abandon them when danger comes calling. I suspect ____ carries a secret that could either save our fellowship or destroy it, and I intend to learn which. I owe ____ a debt of healing, shelter, or forgiveness, though I have not yet decided which debt matters most.
Flaws
Nova mistakes urgency for wisdom and often begins acting before asking whether anyone else has a better plan. They are uncomfortable with cynicism and can be manipulated by anyone who convincingly claims to be protecting the helpless.
Quirks
Background
Nova Loralight was raised in a roadside shrine where pilgrims, smugglers, soldiers, and fugitives all received the same bowl of soup and the same stern reminder that the gods watch what people do with second chances. Nova learned early that devotion was not quiet obedience. It was the courage to open a locked gate, interrupt a cruel bargain, or carry medicine through a riot while everyone else waited for permission. Their first miracle came during a summer storm, when Nova climbed the shrine tower to relight its beacon. The lightning struck the bell instead of the tower, and for one breath every desperate prayer in the valley became clear to them. Since then, Nova has traveled wherever those prayers lead, convinced that divine work is found less in grand temples than in places where ordinary people are being overlooked. They seek companions who can survive their impulsive plans and remind them that helping everyone at once is not always possible.
“Nova learned early that devotion was not quiet obedience.”
