Appearance
Ludva is a broad-shouldered orc with slate-green skin, a powerful build, and a broken lower tusk capped in brass. His black hair is shaved close on the sides and tied into a short warrior's crest. He wears well-maintained leather armor beneath a weather-stained military coat, decorated with colorful ribbons, instrument strings, and old campaign medals. His hands are calloused from sword drills and lute playing, while his expressive amber eyes and constant crooked grin make it difficult to tell whether he is about to start a song or a fight.
Mannerisms
Ludva punctuates serious statements by tapping a rhythm on his weapon or armor. He salutes doorways before entering unfamiliar buildings, laughs at his own jokes before finishing them, and calls nearly everyone younger than him recruit.
Personality
Ludva is boisterous, warm, and impossible to intimidate for long. He treats every adventuring party like a new military squad, assigning affectionate nicknames, checking everyone's equipment, and insisting that meals be shared. Beneath the humor is a keen observer who notices fear, loneliness, and unfairness quickly. He is protective of the vulnerable and distrustful of polished leaders who have never carried their own wounded.
Ideals
Freedom. No banner, general, or law is more sacred than the lives of ordinary people. Everyone deserves the chance to choose their own path.
Bonds
He carries a faded strip of his old unit's banner and will risk almost anything to protect former comrades, refugees, and civilians caught between armies.
Flaws
Ludva cannot resist challenging arrogant authority figures, even when silence would be safer. He also hides his fear of abandonment behind loud jokes and reckless courage, sometimes volunteering for danger simply to prove that he is still useful.
Quirks
Background
Ludva Lifter earned his nickname by carrying wounded soldiers out of places where stronger men had already given up. He served as a shield-bearer, standard carrier, and unofficial camp musician, discovering that a well-timed song could steady frightened recruits just as effectively as a shouted order. His lute began as a salvaged instrument from a ruined officers' tent, but Ludva rebuilt it with bowstring, brass wire, and a piece of an old campaign banner. Over time, his songs became famous throughout the regiment, especially a bawdy marching tune about a captain who lost a duel to a soup ladle. When his unit was ordered to burn a village suspected of aiding enemy scouts, Ludva refused. He helped civilians escape, then publicly broke his sword over the commander's desk. Branded a deserter and stripped of rank, he wandered from battlefield to battlefield, using music, charm, and occasional violence to protect people abandoned by armies. Now he travels as an adventurer, hoping to gather enough influence to expose the officers who gave that order. He still believes in comradeship, but he has learned that loyalty to people matters more than loyalty to uniforms.
