Appearance
Aggandir is a lean male elf with ash-brown hair worn in a precise braid and cool gray eyes that rarely remain still. His olive skin is weathered across the hands and forearms from years spent traveling, handling ink, wax, leather, and cheap metal. He dresses like a respectable minor clerk at first glance, in a well-cut but travel-worn coat, polished boots, and a high-collared shirt. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice that he repeatedly checks the position of a silver signet ring on his right hand, turning it a fraction whenever he is thinking or lying.
Mannerisms
Aggandir speaks with measured precision and rarely answers a question immediately. He adjusts his cuffs before making an important statement, turns his signet ring when lying, and gives documents a quick glance at the seal before reading the text. When someone boasts, he becomes very still and watches their hands.
Personality
Aggandir is courteous, observant, and exacting. He prefers rules that are clearly stated and systems that can be exploited without being destroyed. He treats conversation like a negotiation, listening for inconsistencies and remembering small details that other people assume are unimportant. Although he presents himself as detached, he is quietly protective of people who are being deceived by those with greater wealth or authority.
Ideals
Order. Every promise, debt, and crime should have a place in a clear record. Society becomes cruel when the powerful are allowed to define the truth after the fact.
Bonds
He is determined to find the person who forged his mentor's confession and expose the network that profited from it. He also protects the old archivist who first taught him to read law as carefully as other people read faces.
Flaws
He trusts written evidence more than living witnesses, even when doing so is obviously dangerous. Once he commits to a version of events, pride makes him reluctant to admit that his assumptions were wrong. He also has a deep fear of being publicly exposed as fraudulent, which can make him overreact to minor challenges.
Quirks
Background
Aggandir was born in an elven riverside enclave where patience was considered a virtue and memory was treated as a kind of law. He learned letters, contracts, heraldry, and the careful etiquette of official correspondence from an elderly archivist who noticed that Aggandir could reproduce seals and handwriting after seeing them only once. What began as an innocent talent became more complicated when Aggandir discovered that wealthy visitors routinely used the enclave's trust to manipulate land claims and trade agreements. He began altering documents, not for coin at first, but to restore what he believed was a more orderly balance between the powerful and everyone else. His work eventually attracted the attention of a human confidence artist who taught him the practical arts of disguise, misdirection, and reading a room before the room read him. Together they ran a disciplined series of schemes against corrupt merchants, smugglers, and minor nobles. Aggandir considered the partnership an efficient arrangement until his mentor vanished after a failed deception, leaving behind a forged confession that implicated Aggandir in several crimes. Since then, he has traveled under the identity of Avarn Pell, taking legitimate and illegitimate work alike while quietly investigating who betrayed him. He does not seek chaos or heroic glory. He wants the truth placed in the correct hands, preferably with a signed document to prove it.
