Appearance
Larry is a wiry goblin with russet-green skin, broad ears, and an expressive mouth that seems permanently on the edge of a joke. He wears a well-fitted leather coat over a faded mustard waistcoat, with a bright red scarf tucked into his collar. A small brass handbell hangs from his belt, its handle polished smooth by constant rubbing. He walks with a quick, rolling gait that favors his left foot, as though he is always half a step away from dodging an unseen puddle or punch. His fingers are nimble, usually occupied with a coin, card, button, or the bell's cord.
Mannerisms
Larry speaks quickly, pauses dramatically before obvious punchlines, and rings his brass bell once whenever he tells a lie he considers especially elegant. When nervous, he shifts his weight onto his right foot and silently counts nearby exits.
Personality
Larry is bright, theatrical, and cheerfully suspicious. He treats every conversation like a performance, but his jokes become gentler around frightened people and sharper around bullies. He loves being underestimated and becomes visibly delighted whenever someone mistakes his confidence for incompetence.
Ideals
Misdirection. A cruel person deserves to be confused, embarrassed, and deprived of whatever power they are abusing. A well-timed joke can open a door that a sword only breaks.
Bonds
Larry carries the brass handbell given to him by his old music teacher. He will risk almost anything to protect traveling performers, street children, and people being crushed by official power.
Flaws
Larry cannot resist improving a successful lie until it becomes needlessly complicated. He also assumes that anyone who claims to be honest is either dangerous, inexperienced, or both.
Quirks
Background
Larry grew up among goblin caravans that moved between market towns, river docks, and old military roads. His family repaired instruments, sold dubious tonics, and performed comic skits for travelers. Larry discovered early that people were more generous when they were laughing, especially if the laughter distracted them from noticing that their purse had become lighter. He learned music from a one-eyed human fiddler who insisted that every good lie needed a rhythm, a pause, and one detail too strange to forget. When a local magistrate tried to imprison Larry's family for a harmless con that embarrassed the wrong nobleman, Larry forged travel papers and staged an elaborate courtroom distraction involving three actors, a stolen goose, and an improvised song about municipal corruption. The family escaped, but Larry stayed behind to help other small-time criminals and desperate travelers evade unjust authorities. He now travels as a performer, confidence trickster, and reluctant folk hero, using charm and misdirection to make bullies look foolish. He insists that he is only in it for the applause, though he keeps a careful list of every person who ever gave him shelter.
