Arkenlach is a tall, blue-scaled dragonborn with deep cobalt scales that lighten toward his throat and jaw. Fine silver flecks glimmer between his scales like frost on stone. He stands with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet, as if perpetually ready to step away from a falling object or toward an interesting mystery. His voice is normally low and precise, but when startled, his breath catches audibly and a faint crackle of static dances across his teeth. He wears a dark scholar's robe beneath a weatherworn traveling coat, with a copper-bound spellbook secured at his hip.

Arkenlach is curious, exacting, and cheerfully irreverent toward authority. He asks uncomfortable questions without realizing how uncomfortable they are, then becomes genuinely surprised when people object. He is generous with useful information, but he dislikes being told that a subject is forbidden or too dangerous to study. Despite his restless intellect, he pays close attention to small details in people, especially changes in breathing, posture, and word choice.

Arkenlach was raised among dragonborn archivists who believed that knowledge was a form of ancestral duty. His clan preserved oral histories, fragments of draconic poetry, and accounts of magical phenomena that ordinary scholars dismissed as superstition. As a young apprentice, Arkenlach discovered that his blood carried a volatile affinity for lightning.
