Appearance
Trixx is a compact, russet-scaled kobold with bright amber eyes, oversized ears, and a narrow muzzle usually dusted with copper filings. He wears reinforced scale mail beneath a soot-stained leather apron, with a shield fitted with brass tools, springs, and tiny inspection lenses. His most noticeable habit is constantly checking and tightening the many small screws, buckles, and fittings attached to his equipment. He keeps his scales meticulously groomed, polishing the ones around his face until they shine.
Mannerisms
Trixx talks to his tools as though they are junior apprentices, taps metal surfaces to judge their quality, and pauses mid-conversation to tighten or realign a buckle, screw, or gear. When excited, he rapidly counts under his breath in Draconic.
Personality
Trixx is relentlessly curious, practical, and warmly enthusiastic. He treats every broken object as a puzzle rather than a failure, and he becomes genuinely delighted when someone asks how one of his inventions works. He is friendly toward strangers, suspicious of nobles who dismiss small folk, and much more comfortable explaining a machine than discussing his own feelings.
Ideals
Ingenuity. Every problem has a solution, and every discarded object has another useful purpose. The clever should build for the safety and dignity of everyone, especially those whom powerful people overlook.
Bonds
The kobold warren that raised Trixx depends on his inventions, and he sends home every useful blueprint, tool, and coin he can spare. He is also fiercely protective of Bristle, his steel defender, which he considers both a masterpiece and a member of his family.
Flaws
Trixx cannot resist improving other people’s equipment, even when they have explicitly asked him not to. He is also dangerously overconfident when a device begins making an unfamiliar noise, because he assumes every problem can be solved by tightening one more screw.
Quirks
Background
Trixx was hatched in a kobold warren beneath an abandoned gnome workshop. While the other kobolds learned to set traps and tunnel through stone, Trixx became fascinated by the half-buried devices left behind by the workshop’s former owners. He learned to repair broken springs, reset delicate clockwork, and build useful tools from scraps that everyone else considered worthless. His first successful invention was a hand-cranked signal lamp, which allowed his clan to coordinate during a cave collapse and saved several trapped hatchlings. A traveling guild artisan discovered Trixx’s talent and, after a long argument with the warren’s elders, sponsored him into a regional artisans’ guild. Trixx eventually became an artificer known for practical inventions, stubbornly cheerful experimentation, and an uncanny ability to make damaged equipment work one more time. He now travels with his steel defender, Bristle, a brass-plated quadruped assembled from salvaged armor and workshop debris. Trixx adventures because he wants to prove that kobold craftsmanship deserves respect, while quietly collecting designs and techniques that he can bring home to build a safer, brighter warren.
“He learned to repair broken springs, reset delicate clockwork, and build useful tools from scraps that everyone else considered worthless.”
