Appearance
Nevyn is a lean male tabaxi with tawny-gold fur patterned in dark russet stripes, a long ringed tail, and alert green eyes. He stands with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet, as if every conversation might become a chase. His fur is carefully groomed around the face and ears, while the rest of him is kept practical and slightly weather-stained. He wears a well-fitted leather jerkin beneath a patched charcoal cloak, with a rapier at his hip and thieves' tools arranged in neat, obsessive rows inside his belt pouch.
Mannerisms
Nevyn rarely stands flat-footed. He rocks subtly from heel to toe while listening, keeps one hand near his belt pouch, and tilts his head toward every unexpected sound. When thinking, he silently counts nearby exits on his claws. When uncomfortable, he begins grooming one forearm with excessive concentration.
Personality
Nevyn is curious, adaptable, and determined to be useful, though he disguises his insecurity beneath dry observations and restless competence. He eagerly learns almost any skill placed in front of him, then becomes defensive when someone suggests he is not good enough to use it professionally. He has a soft spot for outsiders, strays, and anyone being ignored by a crowd.
Ideals
Freedom. No guild, lord, law, or tradition gets to decide what a person is worth. People deserve the chance to define themselves, even if society has already written them off.
Bonds
Nevyn is fiercely protective of the street children and overlooked workers who remind him of his younger self. He keeps a small brass seal taken from the corrupt official who helped ruin his chance at a respectable life, and he intends to expose that official's crimes one day.
Flaws
Nevyn assumes rejection is inevitable, so he often sabotages promising opportunities before someone else can dismiss him. He is suspicious of praise, quick to lie when embarrassed, and has a stubborn habit of proving he can manage alone even when accepting help would be wiser.
Quirks
Background
Nevyn was raised among the market roofs and narrow lanes of a crowded port city, where being a tabaxi made him memorable even when he desperately wanted to be overlooked. He had a talent for nearly everything he tried. He learned letters from a retired clerk, knots from a dockhand, knife work from a street performer, and the basics of accounting from a pawnbroker. When he attempted to make any of these skills into a respectable profession, he was rejected. The guilds called him unreliable, the performers called him too awkward, and the merchants called him too strange. One by one, every door closed in his face. The final rejection came from the city watch, who dismissed him after a failed attempt to join as a records clerk. Nevyn had uncovered evidence that a prominent official was stealing from the poor, but his warning was ignored and his questions made him enemies. With no trade willing to claim him, he returned to the streets, where his quick hands, sharp eyes, and knowledge of hidden routes finally became useful. He began carrying messages, opening locked doors, and taking from people who had more than enough. He tells himself he chose the shadows, but the truth is that the shadows were the first place that made room for him. Now he travels as an adventurer, hoping to prove that being unwanted by every profession does not mean he is useless.
