Appearance
Lynx is a lean, red-skinned tiefling with swept-back black hair, curled ram horns, golden eyes, and a long tail fitted with several tiny brass rings. He stands with one heel raised and most of his weight balanced on the balls of his feet, as though waiting for a cue no one else can hear. He smells faintly of citrus oil, hot metal, and singed velvet, a combination he insists is a professional fragrance. His traveling coat is patched with colorful stage cloth and reinforced with hidden pockets, buckles, and alchemical tubes.
Mannerisms
When thinking, Lynx taps a rhythm against his shield with one fingertip. He announces minor plans as though introducing the next act, and he gives every experimental device a theatrical name before testing it.
Personality
Lynx is vivacious, observant, and impossible to ignore. He flirts with danger, strangers, and occasionally his own inventions. Beneath the swagger is a sharp fear of being dismissed as a novelty, so he works relentlessly to make every trick useful as well as beautiful. He genuinely enjoys helping people, although he prefers to do it with smoke, music, and a dramatic reveal.
Ideals
Freedom. No guild, church, noble, or infernal legacy gets to decide what a person may create or who they may become. Rules are useful only until they prevent someone from making their own choices.
Bonds
He carries a brass gear from his family's old theater and intends to rebuild the theater after it was seized by a corrupt magistrate. He is fiercely protective of performers, street artists, and anyone whose livelihood depends on making strangers smile.
Flaws
Lynx treats every serious problem as if it were a performance opportunity. He lies reflexively when embarrassed, takes unnecessary risks for a better story, and cannot resist improving someone else's invention, even when doing so is dangerous or deeply insulting.
Quirks
Background
Lynx was born backstage in a theater whose audience never knew that the loudest applause often came from the workshop beneath the stage. His mother performed acrobatics, his father played a battered fiddle, and Lynx learned early that every good spectacle requires someone willing to repair the ropes, polish the props, and make the impossible happen on cue. His infernal heritage made some patrons uneasy, so he answered their suspicion with charm, flamboyant demonstrations, and small mechanical miracles that turned boos into cheers. His talent for practical invention emerged when he rebuilt a collapsed illusionist's automaton from scraps of stage machinery and kitchen utensils. The device became his partner in performance, though it still occasionally sprays foam at dramatic moments. Lynx later joined a troupe of traveling entertainers, using alchemy and artificer craft to create colored smoke, harmless explosions, enchanted spotlights, and convincing fake monsters. He left after discovering that the troupe's owner had been selling dangerous experimental concoctions to desperate nobles. Lynx took the formula book, burned the contracts, and now wanders from city to city, seeking applause, profit, and a chance to prove that artifice can astonish without ruining anyone's evening.
