Appearance
Valerius is a lean High Elf with skin like sun-bleached driftwood and eyes the color of storm-tossed jade. He wears finely tailored black leather armor accented with a blood-red silk sash. His long, silver-blonde hair is tied back in a pragmatic knot, and he possesses a sharp, aristocratic nose that seems out of place on a pirate deck.
Mannerisms
He constantly brushes non-existent dust from his cuffs after every confrontation and tends to tilt his head when he is casting a spell as if listening to music.
Personality
He carries himself with the quiet confidence of a man who knows exactly how many coins are in your pocket. He is polite to a fault, even when threatening to cut a throat, and speaks with the precision of a scholar while standing in a pile of fish guts.
Ideals
Self-Interest. I am only as good as my next payday and the speed of my ship.
Bonds
I owe my life to Captain Thorne of the Crimson Current, and I would burn the world to keep our ship afloat.
Flaws
I am unable to resist showing off my magical prowess, even when subtlety would serve me better.

Background
Valerius was once a high-ranking navigational prodigy for the Silver Crescent merchant guild until he discovered a secret cabal of smugglers operating within his own family. When he attempted to expose them, he was framed for high treason and sentenced to the Salt Pits. He escaped by charming a guard and stowing away on the first ship leaving the harbor, which happened to be a recruitment vessel for The Crimson Current. Initially seen as a mere 'fancy lad,' Valerius earned his place by using his arcane talents to guide the ship through a razor-reef that should have shredded its hull. He now serves as the crew's chief infiltrator and master of maritime sabotage. He treats the acts of piracy as a series of intricate puzzles, using his invisible magic to jam rudder chains and silence alarms before the crimson sails ever breach the horizon. He remains with the crew because they are the only family that never asked him to lie about who he was, and because the chaotic freedom of the sea is the only cure for his aristocratic boredom.
