Appearance
Boggi Steelhelm is a broad shouldered mountain dwarf with a weathered bronze face, a thick braided beard bound in iron rings, and a scar across one cheek that looks like it was earned in a desperate shield wall. He wears polished chain mail beneath a travel worn soldier's cloak, keeps a battered round shield close at hand, and carries himself like a veteran who still expects the next order to come from somewhere uphill. His eyes are sharp, gray, and alert, always scanning for exits, ambushes, and the quickest route to loot without needless bloodshed.
Mannerisms
Boggi speaks in clipped, practical sentences and often punctuates his thoughts by thumbing the edge of his shield. When he's pleased, he gives a low gravelly chuckle and taps his beard rings together. In tense moments he squares his shoulders, plants his boots, and instinctively begins judging the room like a sergeant inspecting a wall of recruits.
Personality
Boggi is blunt, steady, and unexpectedly kind once he decides someone is worth the trouble. He enjoys discipline, good wages, clean kit, and the satisfaction of a plan that holds under pressure. He is not flashy, but he takes pride in being the dwarf who stays standing when everyone else is looking for cover.
Ideals
Duty, comradeship, and honest profit can coexist. A soldier should protect the helpless, keep his word, and still make sure the company gets paid, because hungry heroes die young.
Bonds
Boggi still sends a portion of every hard earned payday back to his clan hold, and he keeps a dented signet ring from his father wrapped in oilcloth inside his kit. He feels a fierce loyalty to the comrades who have stood beside him in battle, especially those few mercenaries who treated honor as something worth more than gold.
Flaws
Boggi treats every situation like it may turn into an ambush, which makes him suspicious of good news and slow to trust easy promises. He also has a mercenary habit of mentally tallying the worth of dangerous work before agreeing to it, even when his conscience is already pulling him toward doing the right thing for free.
Quirks
Background
Boggi Steelhelm was born deep in a high mountain hold where stone, oath, and reputation mattered more than coin. He learned to swing a hammer before he was old enough to shave, and like many dwarf sons with strong arms and a restless heart, he was expected to spend his life in the forges or the tunnels. Boggi had other ideas. He wanted stories, hard travel, and a chance to test himself against enemies that did not already know his name. When a free company came through the holds hiring stout arms for a border war, he signed on with a grin and a pack full of provisions, promising his clan he would return with glory, scars, and a profitable share.
