Appearance

Malice is a tall, dark-skinned drow woman with silver-white hair worn in a severe braided crown, pale violet eyes, and a lean, disciplined build. Her left arm is deliberately bare from shoulder to wrist, marked with ritual scars and fine spiderweb tattoos. She wears fitted chain mail beneath layered crimson, saffron, and black robes, leaving the armor partially concealed beneath colorful fabric. Her greatsword is slightly curved like an oversized katana, its blackened blade etched with tiny spider motifs. A narrow veil hangs from one side of her belt, and her hands are stained with oil, ash, and poison residue.

Mannerisms

Malice pauses before answering as though awaiting an unheard command. She cleans her blade whenever someone speaks of honor, keeps her exposed left arm turned toward enemies, and addresses spiders in a soft, intimate whisper. She never steps over a web without bowing her head.

Personality

Malice is quiet, observant, and intensely controlled. She speaks with the measured courtesy of a military officer, but every statement sounds like an assessment of leverage, weakness, or usefulness. She admires discipline and competence wherever she finds them, even in enemies, yet she cannot imagine loyalty that is not enforced by fear or devotion. Beneath her religious certainty is a strange tenderness toward spiders and abandoned weapons, both of which she considers honest about what they are.

Ideals

Purpose. A blade is most perfect when it has no will of its own. I will become the flawless instrument of Lolth's design.

Bonds

Lolth is my mother, queen, and rightful commander. I will destroy anyone who denies her dominion, especially those who have escaped her web.

Flaws

I mistake obedience for virtue and often treat compassion as evidence of weakness. When a plan fails, I search first for betrayal rather than error. I cannot tolerate being called by my birth name, and I react to pity with disproportionate violence.

Quirks

Names each poison after a lesson she learned from Lolth.
Keeps a tiny harmless cave spider in a carved bone case and releases it before important missions.
Counts the enemy's breaths aloud during close combat.
Refuses to sleep with her left arm covered.
Collects broken weapons from defeated foes and repairs only the ones that tried to kill her well.

Background

Malice was born Aurelia Travra, a daughter of House Travra in Menzoberranzan. From infancy, every lesson was meant to shape her into a priestess of Lolth. She learned obedience before language, ritual before affection, and cruelty as the simplest proof of devotion. Yet the priestesses found that Aurelia possessed little talent for public worship. She did not relish sermons, courtly intrigue, or the elaborate humiliations of the temple. She preferred the quiet certainty of a blade entering flesh, the geometry of an ambush, and the moment an enemy realized that honor had never protected them. During a rite deep beneath the city, a swarm of spiders descended upon her without warning. Their bites should have killed her, but instead she received a vision of Lolth as mother, queen, and consuming abyss. The goddess did not offer Aurelia a place among the priestesses. She offered purpose. Aurelia abandoned her birth name, her house, and the expectation that she should become a person separate from divine will. She became Malice, a living weapon and battlefield general in Lolth's service. After years commanding expendable patrols and hunting traitors in the Underdark, she now walks beyond Menzoberranzan to test the Way of the Black Widow against enemies who believe surface customs can save them.
