Appearance
Spark-Skitter is a tiny rat-like creature, standing roughly 75 centimeters tall. Their fur is a patchwork of scruffy grey and white, permanently puffed out and standing on end due to a constant aura of static electricity. Tiny blue sparks often jump between their long whiskers and ears. They wear simple, oversized robes of dark indigo cloth that are frayed at the bottom and smell faintly of ozone. They carry a blackened wooden staff topped with a twisted copper coil.
Mannerisms
Sniffs the air constantly for the smell of ozone and frequently touches two fingers together to create a tiny, harmless spark.
Personality
Nervous, twitchy, and constantly in motion, Spark-Skitter speaks with a rapid-fire cadence that mimics the crackle of a lightning bolt. They are intensely curious about metal objects and frequently poke them with a glass rod to see if they produce a 'snap.' They find it difficult to sit still and often pace in tight circles when deep in thought.
Ideals
Everything is connected by the invisible threads of energy that bind the heavens to the earth.
Bonds
I am looking for the Copper Spire, a legendary tower where the world's original spark is said to be stored.
Flaws
I am terrified of being grounded and often overreact when people try to touch me, fearing I will discharge accidentally.
Quirks
Background
Spark-Skitter was once an ordinary scavenger in a coastal ratfolk colony until they were struck by a bolt of blue lightning atop a sacred lighthouse. Instead of perishing, their body became a conduit for the natural electrical currents of the world. The colony, terrified by the constant zapping of their food stores and fur, gently encouraged Spark-Skitter to seek 'enlightenment' elsewhere. They spent years alone in the high crags, studying the way lightning danced between clouds. During their isolation, they realized that the patterns of the stars mirrored the fractal patterns of electrical discharges on the ground. This realization led them to the Circle of Stars, though Spark-Skitter views the celestial bodies not as points of light, but as massive, eternal sparks of the Great Battery. They now travel the world, searching for a way to ground their surging power or find a storm large enough to truly call home.
“Instead of perishing, their body became a conduit for the natural electrical currents of the world.”
