Appearance
A sturdy human woman with warm brown skin, broad shoulders, and thick dark hair usually gathered into a practical braid. Her eyes are deep hazel and attentive, constantly measuring who is frightened, hungry, or being overlooked. A faded red cord is wrapped around her left wrist, worn smooth where years of anxious fingers have thumbed it. She wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a scarred blue-gray surcoat, with a polished holy symbol of her healing deity at her throat. She stands close when speaking to frightened people, often placing herself between them and danger without seeming to notice she has done so.
Mannerisms
Nayeli counts people silently whenever she enters a room, checks exits before sitting, and gives instructions in a calm, practical tone even during disasters. When someone thanks her, she immediately redirects the credit to the group. She often kneels to speak at a child's eye level, regardless of how dirty the ground is.
Personality
Warm, direct, and relentlessly attentive, Nayeli treats every group as a small community she is responsible for. She is quick to laugh with children, patient with the frightened, and blunt with anyone abusing authority. She prefers practical kindness over grand speeches, but when danger comes, her quiet voice becomes impossible to ignore.
Ideals
Mercy is not weakness. The strength of a community is measured by how it treats the people who have the least power to protect themselves.
Bonds
The survivors she escorted from the dragon attack are her extended family. She sends part of every reward to their settlement and will risk nearly anything to protect them. She also carries a list of names from the city, people she believes may still be alive.
Flaws
She cannot walk away from someone in need, even when doing so is tactically foolish. She is suspicious of comfortable leaders who speak about sacrifice without sharing in it, and her anger at cowardice can make her unfairly judgmental. When exhausted, she becomes controlling and insists that everyone follow her plan because she is afraid of what happens when nobody takes charge.
Quirks
Background
Nayeli grew up in the crowded lower wards of a large human city, where narrow streets filled with market smoke, hungry children, and people who had learned not to expect help. From an early age, her hands seemed to know what to do when someone was hurt. She could slow bleeding, ease fever, and calm the panic of a child before she understood why the prayers worked. Rather than keeping that gift for the wealthy, she fed orphans, mended the clothes of dockworkers, and spent the coins from every odd job on bread, poultices, and blankets. The temples eventually noticed her, and so did the city watch. She became a familiar presence in the slums, patrolling dangerous alleys by day and volunteering in temple infirmaries by night. When dragons descended upon the city, Nayeli did not wait for orders. As towers burned and streets collapsed, she gathered the terrified, injured, and elderly around her, using a soldier's discipline and a healer's voice to guide them through the chaos. She led a large group of survivors to the nearest settlement, staying awake for days to tend wounds and organize food, shelter, and watch rotations. When the last of her charges were safe, she turned back toward the smoking city with her shield on her arm and her holy symbol in hand. The war changed her from a local protector into a wandering cleric, but not her purpose. Wherever the powerful abandon people, Nayeli intends to be there first.
