Appearance
Riola is a remarkably cute young tiefling with warm umber skin, small swept-back horns, bright golden eyes, and a long tail that curls around his ankle whenever he is nervous. His silver-white hair is soft and slightly unruly, usually tied with a red ribbon. He stands with most of his weight on one foot, rocking gently while he waits, as though listening to music no one else can hear. When he laughs, his pointed teeth show in a broad, delighted grin, and he has a habit of chewing thoughtfully on the end of his quill. His clothing combines an acolyte's neat cream robes with a dark crimson warlock coat embroidered in friendly-looking smiling flames.
Mannerisms
Riola rocks lightly from heel to toe while waiting, taps his quill against his teeth when thinking, and leans dramatically toward anyone who catches his interest. He punctuates serious statements with a tiny flourish of his tail and often whispers, "Was that helpful?" to the flame in his arcane focus.
Personality
Kind, affectionate, and openly flirty, Riola treats strangers like friends he has not met properly yet. He is cheerful in danger, quick to forgive, and fascinated by anyone with unusual stories. He tries to make villains reconsider their life choices before attacking them, although he is perfectly willing to blast them through a wall if they threaten someone vulnerable. Despite his age, his enormous intellect and supernatural power make him startlingly perceptive, but he still reacts to embarrassment like a normal thirteen-year-old, with theatrical pouting and an aggressively wagging tail.
Ideals
Kindness is a form of rebellion. The world expects monsters to be cruel, so I will be gentle loudly, dramatically, and often.
Bonds
Vezrul, the Kindly Ember, is my patron, protector, and dearest friend. I will defend his good name, even when everyone else assumes the worst.
Flaws
I trust kindness too quickly, especially when someone has a sad story or an attractive smile. I also become reckless when people insult Vezrul, and I cannot resist making promises before I have considered the consequences.
Quirks
Background
Riola Fiala was raised in a small temple where the priests expected solemnity, obedience, and a respectful distance from anything touched by the Lower Planes. Riola tried very hard to be solemn. Unfortunately, he was curious, affectionate, and endlessly fascinated by the old forbidden prayers stored beneath the temple library. At thirteen, he found a sealed prayer book that contained the name of a demon called Vezrul, the Kindly Ember, a being who had abandoned cruelty centuries ago and now spent his days protecting lost travelers, frightened children, and anyone who asked politely for help. Riola expected a terrible bargain. Instead, Vezrul asked whether he had eaten dinner, complimented his handwriting, and offered a pact based on mutual kindness. Riola accepted immediately. Their magic now appears as soft crimson fire, warm rather than scorching, and Vezrul speaks through flickering symbols in Riola's spellbook. The temple elders called the pact blasphemy, so Riola left to prove that a demon's nature is not always the same as a demon's heart. He travels as an exuberant young acolyte and powerful warlock, helping people, flirting shamelessly, and trying to make every person he meets feel a little less alone.
